I have TIG brazed before with good results on steel. Anybody ever TIG silver soldered on stainless steel? I know this is a weird question.... an Old Oneida serving spoon that has been in the family a long while. The handle was resistance spot welded to the scoop portion in 4 places failed when lifting a chicken out of the instant pot. My wife has willingly put up with my quirks for 41 years I would love to fix this thing for her. Also I was the one using it when it failed....... any advice appreciated.

Take it to a Jeweler ?

They work with silver and stuff at this scale all the time.

TIG-ing stainless steel (no silver) is super easy.  If those holes go all the way through to the handle you can probably just rosette weld it with no filler.  Practice on some stainless and you'll see what I'm talking about - it has no contaminates in it so it flows like butta.

I can totally relate to wanting to be the hero and fixing this yourself but since you don't really have another to practice on and you stand a better than average chance of making it worse I too recommend taking it to a jeweler.

Got brave sort of and practiced on an old fork. That induced enough bravery to go ahead and try on the spoon. It worked out ok. Had a little bit of different color on the back side from the silver solder. Afer some time at the buffing wheel it turn out pretty well. Pictures to follow. Thanks to every one for your input.

In reply to APEowner :

I would not say you were completely wrong! I just have an understanding wife. Who is almost as frugal as I am....

All is well that ends well.  Bonus points for taking the plunge.
