Looks like an old type of chain master link. When I was a kid all my bikes had that type.
Sure looks like part of a chain link. Maybe a pic with a scale reference, a pic of the other one in place and the make and/or model of the log splitter?

I think what I'm missing is the male part of the link
Take the pieces you have to tractor supply and they probably have a master link just like it in the tractor section

Correct, it's just an old school chain master link.
Looks like a specialized link connection, like one of these:

Tractor supply calls them roller chain links and has 10 or so sizes in stock.
I found it at true value hardware. TS was my next stop if they didn't have it. Thanks!
