Assetto Corsa EVO anyone buy it yet? reviews? I don't have a computer that can handle it yet, just curious if it lives up to the hype.

So far the reviews have been... mixed to say the least.

Seems they are reusing the acc model for physics, there are videos about the bad throttle model (see here and here), optimization is bad and there are some very inconsistent reports about force feedback performance.

Kunos has been rather quick in making quick fixes so far, but I am not holding my breath for this. Graphics seem kinda meh for the requirements, and I have a feeling that it won't be as modable as AC.

It is a pre-release Beta and it seems to be very much that.  I will have a lot of bugs and glitches.  It's great for testing, but has potential to have the bugs turn people off.

I'm not sure it was wise for them to release such an anticipated game as "Early Access" (beta test)

I'll wait for mid to late 2025 to check it out.

It was a strange decision indeed.

I get them wanting to cash in by riding the huge hype train, but this isn't a small indie studio that could be forgiven for teething issues. Hope it works out for them.

I do think they were pretty honest about expectations though. I just set up my first sim two days ago, so I'm extremely new to all this. I had to decide with AC to get, read the descriptions on Steam, and made the decision to got with plain AC until they get a more ironed out release. It basically said "we've reduced the price to reflect the unfinished nature" or something like that. I wouldn't make a good beta tester, so I passed on it. I don't mind beta testing programs I know well, but I don't want to learn on a beta release.

So we will see you on Wednesday then?

That's the plan eventually. My lap times are starting to get "realistic" to my own car on familiar tracks, buts that's an admittedly low bar, haha

You can still come in and play.

First time I played with the guys was before I had even properly set up my sim settings, without knowing the track etc.

Also, someone is almost always in testing the days before the race - you can hop in and join, get tips etc so you won't be me :D

Hey, me too! I'm working my way through the career to try and up my skills before jumping into the deep end with you GRM folks.

No interest in Evo yet on my end. I have plenty to do and learn in plain old AC before I need to take on something new. I'll wait until later in the year when the bugs are ironed out, and maybe there's a sale or something.

Just come on in and join the party.  The water is fine.  No need to skill up beforehand.

Well, it's enjoyable to us! cheeky  Plus, it's a great way to make the highlights!

Also, coaching is generally available.  If nothing else, participating allows you to save the replay, which allows you to watch anyone else's race, and technique.

That was me with the Singers that we run last season. Then I realized I had somehow left the ffb at 50% and didn't get any feedback that the back was stepping out till it was too late.

No need to brag!  Some of us are happy if we can string together a single lap :)

If you want more practice before racing just come out for practice and qualifying sessions.

To get back on topic, just found this video compilation of EVO issues.

What surprises me isn't that there are issues. It is a beta, pc's always had issues with various combinations of components, with specific fixes needed for basically every one of them.

No, what does it for me is the sheer amount of different issues. Seems at stage more suitable for a closed beta, not an open one.

One simple to fix example are the racing lines in one specific track that most people seem to have experienced, with the Ai going on the grass. I would have expected that they would have seen and fixed that when they tested every track in every weather combination before sending EVO out into the world. I know I would.

Jumping in to keep an eye on the progress with EVO.  I'm generally not an early adopter for all the reasons discussed, but interested to see if the game gets sorted properly.

BTW, for those new to sims, it's really easy to overdrive the car in a sim... you don't have all the sensory feedback you have in a real car (and there's no consequences for a crash!).  Try backing off a bit and coming up to speed slowly to get a better feel for where the limits are, and the signals you get as the car approaches them.

Definitely join the party on Wednesdays!  It's a lot of fun, and I can tell you that the regular sim racing has absolutely improved my real world driving on track.

If that is all you do you won't even get looked at twice. I mean I managed to take the entire field out in turn one of the first lap of the race.

I now proudly wear my "Tangerine Torpedo" decals with pride and honer.  I think that was 10 years ago at this point.   🤪😁

You don't even have to race to join in the fun. Show up and practice and even give qualifying a shot. If you don't want to race you can ride along with the various drivers and watch the race and get an idea on how the fast guys are driving the track.  I often do this during the practice sessions when I am off pace to see where I can improve.

In reply to Rodan :

It's mostly the "no consequences" part for me, but I was exaggerating my awfulness a bit. I'm running a familiar track (VIR) with a familiar car (Elise), and that has given me a great frame of reference. If I'm just trying to lap at 9/10ths, I'm fine. It's just when pushing it that things get dicey, but that's somewhat intentional.

I may try jumping in on the next practice and see what happens. At least running against AI has been confirming, and the turns where I'm way off pace, I kinda already knew. Over-braking is my biggest problem, so I just need more acclimation to the sim world.

sorry for the derailment, but the conversation is interesting!

The Corolla wagons we are driving now are far less tricky than an Elise!

Yeah, just show up an hour to half an hour before racing starts (9pm est, 8pm cst) and join the server and the discord so we can talk to you and swap stories and news. Also most everyone would be willing to share their setup with you if you are having setup issues for a certain track. It's a blast.
