So I added a couple more cars to the room a gt2 BMW and a Ford GT. I also tried a Lotus Evora GTE car but it was way off pace with a really poor power to weight.  The BMW I think will slot right in. The GT is fast. Probably a ringer. I tried the other GT and it was even faster hitting 180 on the back straits.  Both Ford GT cars I think could have the power brought down so the power to weight that is close to the other cars and I think it would be a really good car. Both have great handling with the TC turned off. Maybe edit the Evora as well but it was slow to shift and the handling was off a bit to me.

I had a great time tonight. Thanks to everyone that showed up!!!!

That link is a mess with all kinds of pop ups and it wanting to install things. I would not go there with out good protection on your pc/phone.

Weird.  I got no popups.  It has less ads than any GRM forum page.

On My PC it is fine but on my iPhone, it is a major CF of a site.

Because of ProDarwin's post, I started to see what it took to actually make a track.  What a rabbit hole this may turn out to be.

A good get your feet wet wright up I found.

Dont blame this on me!

I wonder what a good starting track would be.  I may have some ideas.   I need to watch the video... the writeup doesn't address scaling.

Just a quick note:  I ran the GeForce Experience app (total pain in the ass to use, makes you log in each time), and had it optimize my video setting for AC.  It made a HUGE improvement.  I went from around 60 fps in 1080p to over a 100 fps and 60 fps in 4K (using the CM Benchmark).  A race also loads a LOT faster (because of textures?).

Obviously, this is only useful for someone with a GeForce card, but I can upload my CM Preset file that you can load if anyone wants to try it.  The one interesting change that I can see it made was changing the Rendering mode to Oculus Rift (!).  It also looks like Post Processing filters have a very large effect.  I can also just upload a screen shot.  The optimization was to lean heavily towards performance, but it still looks very good (no noticeable difference to me).

Nice pics.  I need to find the "incident" we had in one of the races (4th corner at Nurburgring?) and see how I can spin it with pictures to make it Deans fault....

FWIW I hopped on to try some more Suzuka last night.  The "new" version of it is awful.  In addition to the performance indicator not working, the frame rate takes a real dump in several places around the track.  I ended up going back to the 1992 version because the overall experience was much better, even if dated.

I am going to be messing with a new server computer this weekend.  If it all goes to plan there will be no change.

The server may actually be better as I am significantly increasing the ram as compared to the current computer.  The total core count in the new server is the same and the total dedicated to the AC server will be the same (4 cores instead of the usual 2 that most people dedicate to an AC server).  The new CPU has a higher boost clock as well.  Since it will be completely dedicated to server duties and not have me also gaming on it I am hoping that it will be overall better.  The only issue that may happen is if I forget to copy over all the content from my current server/pc.

Here is another question.  Can you run a steam account on two computers at the same time?  I will be running the server through a steam provided software that I am betting will require me to be logged in to steam on the server and obviously, I will have to be logged in to steam when I am playing the game on my current PC

Interesting.  I was not seeing that (maybe my settings).  Does it do it offline also?  If not, it might be a good test track for Deans new server.

There is another version of Suzuka available, by the same group that did the Bathurst conversion.  I will upload that one to the drive and you (we) can try that.  It's:  rt_susuka.7z

I am not sure that is the latest version, check the menu in CM to see if it finds an update.  Does it have 1 track or 4 variations?  The old version only has one.

Anyone else getting this notice from CM:

I am of course always very cautious about any registry changes, and I am not seeing any big performance issues that I know of.  Any thoughts? It looks like it will change a general Windows behavior, which I could see going bad.

This is what Microsoft says about it (noting it could cause issus), but it also notes its Windows 7 (?)  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/win7appqual/fault-tolerant-heap

Here is a post about it (might be the cause of your performance issues?):   https://www.reddit.com/r/assettocorsa/comments/obsxc6/content_mgr_issues_fault_tolerant_heap_registry/

Here is a video about someone doing the fix themselves (my registry does list AC):   https://youtu.be/3ROzupIL8iY

In reply to aircooled :

I've seen similar pop ups and been skeptical as well, I just hit cancel the couple times they've come up and there have been no performance issues.  If you're running at the limits of your system I could see it being an improvement but AC isn't pushing the bounds of most systems.

The early version of Suzuka seems to have less grip than the later version. I am not having any issues with the later version. I played around with things last night. I currently have Fuji up on the server.  It is an "ok" model of the track.  I like the GT or the PC2 versions much better.  I am hoping we can find another version for AC.

New Server is running locally!!!!!!  Just have to migrate over all the stuff that is on my current machine and then swap around IP addresses!!!! and then it should be accessable by you all..

Added some new cars took out some ringers I had in the server and did some testing.  The BMW is the easy button. It is almost a cheater car.  Sauce will need to be banned from it winklaugh. Or we all need ot get a bunch better!!!!    The Corvette and the AUDI I like very much as well.  I think these could be as fast as the BMW with a little work.  I spent a ton of time tuning the 488 and I got it much better but it is still off the pace of the other cars I tested tonight. I did not test the Camaro, either of the Astons, or 911.  The P4/s is fun but not really fast and the Alpha while a great car to drive is slow.

As noted, it is very easy to do torque (HP) and weight mods on cars.  I don't know how easy adding HC to each race is, but we can use those as a basis to try and balance.

If, for example the BMW is too fast, and we find 50kg is good to equalize, I can make that mod to the car.  If it's just to fast on the straights, I can take out some power.  I can do it as a sub-mod to the car, so the base model stays the same you will just have to make sure to select the mod when you choose cars.   Everyone will have to install that mod of course (I am pretty sure I can provide a mod only file, though a full reload is not much of an issue.

My thaught with cars would be to take 5/6 cars we like. Pick the best one out of the box and basically do a swap of all the performance traits from it in to all the other car. We keep the sound files of the cars original. Basically making a spec series but with different body's and sounds.

out of the current group I would use either the BMW or the Audi as the base car and put it in all the other cars but keep the sounds of the other cars.

Oh I forget I also really like the corvette. It would be another possible doner car. I want a 458 that has the under pinning of the R8 and put the corvette underpinnings in to the Astons.

Can you swap data / performance files between cars?  But keep the sounds the same?

Basically we could make our own GTE (or any other) car pack we want.

That's an interesting thought.  One issue I can see is that all the parts (e.g. wheels / suspension...) of a car are entirely based off the center of mass so you could potentially end up with wheels in the wrong places. Swapping the sound files is very easy (done in CM)  Fixing that could be a pain (I am not sure how many things you would need to move).

Handicapping or modify weight or power is likely an much easier option.

One suggestion might be to have Sauce do a 10 minute tune on all the cars (kind of like the Ferrari) and share those to make sure they are reasonable (some are clearly not).  Then we can do some lap time testing with those tunes.

Yeah, it does it offline too.  Frame rate is solid at the 144cap for most of the track, but the back straight will drop it into the 90s.  I think there is just a lot of extra polycount there, perhaps too much.

I just remembered that in the last race someone was asking about a cheap handbrake setup, here's a later revision of the one I'm using which is sold under a number of different brand names that were probably made up on the spot, but it's most often referred to as the "banggood handbrake" after the company that first sold it:

https://www.amazon.com/PC-Handbrake-FANATECOSW-Mac-Linux-Unix/dp/B08VHN8GSV/

Another one with a desk clamp, it seems they don't all include the clamp:

https://www.amazon.com/handbrake-Suitable-Logitech-Simulation-Performance/dp/B08PQDD6W3/

I would recommend applying grease to the hinge points and the shaft with the spring around it.
