I wasn't a huge fan of the gameplay, but I bought like 3-4 copies of Descent II over the years for the soundtrack.

Damn good Redbook audio, that. Used to love the games, though. One of the better space shooters. I used to do the tunnels flares only as a hardmode.
I'll have to check it out. I used to love descent.
Holy crap, I haven't played Descent since Windows 95
I clicked just to see if we were talking about the same game! It's probably still installed on my Win95 machine.
The Descent 1 & 2 community is still active. You can get dxx Rebirth (upgraded engine) + descent content and play it on all modern hardware. Still looks very dated, but also still very fun.
I picked up Sublevel Zero the other day. Its fun, but its not Descent. The ship dynamics are close, but it has more rotational inertia that Descent - less of a twitch shooter. Also corridors never seem to open up as much. Still, well worth the asking price and good fun. Check it out if you have a spare $15 and time to kill.
I remember that game. I want a port to Google Cardboard. After all, I haven't thrown up yet today.
Another Descent clone just popped up:
