This made me break out fo3. Even though I already have a few hundred hours into it and 300 into nv.
I'm glad they've added some color to the world. The muted grays of Fallout 3 work well but got old after a while. I had the same problem with Skyrim.
Is this an appropriate place for a debate??
Fallout 3 vs. Fallout New Vegas
Go.
I didn't get around to playing Fallout until maybe 2 years ago? I borrowed New Vegas from my brother. I was hooked. Didn't quite understand the intricacies of the game, might have pissed off or killed some people I shouldn't have, didn't complete all the quests, but completed the story. Then I played 3. Cant remember if I finished that one. I don't think I have. I certainly liked the music and environment more in New Vegas, I started a new game a couple months ago. I guess I am so "new" to the franchise that I don't have a favorite. They play exactly the same as far as I'm concerned. Which is a good thing.
I liked 3 better than New Vegas. Bigger and more interesting map sealed the deal. I never did beat New Vegas, i should get to that before 4 releases.
imo, FO3 and FNV both ahve their pluses and minues. Love them both. NV has more weapon options, upgrades, hardcore mode etc. 3 has that urban survival feel that can't be matched.
There's no place in NV I have not been on the map. 3 I cannot figure out how to get to the whitehouse.
As for "fave".... 3 I played first and pretty much followed the storyline from beginning to end and was done in 20 hours? A little disappointed but loved the game. I had borrowed it from a friend and returned it. Only when I purchased NV and realized just how expansive the franchise is and how many side quests and silly things you can do did I go back and purchase 3 for myself and procede to spend 300+ hours on ultiple play throughs. So.... since I pretty much sidestepped the answer, I have to say NV BARELY edges out 3 for me. But it's like choosing between the top two supermodels of your dreams. Either way you win.
I haven't played a Fallout game since Fallout 2 despite having New Vegas and Brotherhood of Steel for years now, and I am wanting this game BAD, especially since it takes place in Boston. Now I need to decide what next-gen console I need to get.
I really need to circle back and pick up 3 one of these days. Since they are Bethesda games, do they play like a post apocalyptic Skyrim?

It's called a PC I'm hoping my 7 year old Toshiba laptop will be able to run it. It runs 3 and NV very well. If not, I'm not above selling my bodily fluids to fund a new PC build.
It's just like Skyrim but set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With guns. And robots. And no arrows to the knee

It plays just like a post apocolyptic Skyrim. PS4 has Naughty Dog games, which is all it took to sway me.
I liked 3, but New Vegas drew me into the franchise, and also into skyrim. If you don't like new vegas, idk what you could possibly like. I mean, what other game series would allow you to have a 357 magnum Gatling gun controlled by a dog's brain.
New Vegas, because a child's ray gun is the most powerful weapon in the game. Also I really, really liked the Lonesome Road expansion.

I've always been a console gamer, so I'll stick with what I know. I also have a 5-6 year old Toshiba laptop, so I don't think it's going to run anything like Fallout 4 anytime soon.
I really need to pop in New Vegas one of these days when I have the time. I love Skyrim, and I love post-apocalyptic stories, so it sounds like it's right up my alley along with Fallout 3.

In one play through, I used that little guy to kill everyone. Sad you have to wait a day to recharge it though. You can wipe out nearly all of the Caesar's Legion pricks at the legate's camp in one blast if you journey there with the platinum chip.
While Lonesome Road was great, my favorite was Old World Blues. That whole thing was funny.....and I never did retrieve any of my organs.
In reply to RossD:
No confirmation but I'd heard October 23.
(Gamestop Italy said that, if that's true it'd be released in the states a little earlier)
Last I heard the Bethesda website said '2015'

That would be rad! I have also heard mid-October release dates thrown around.
Bethesda announced the release date is going to be November 10, 2015.
They're also planning on releasing a Pip-Boy collector's edition that comes with a working and wearable Pip-Boy that you pair your phone to for $120 bucks. If you don't feel like springing for the extra toy, there will be an app you can download on your phone that does the same thing.
Damn. You guys are on it haha
WANT!!!1!1!!
Ironically, I've been running a Pip-Boy 3000 theme on my phone for over a year now.
I lurv the Fallout universe. I have been contemplating a FO themed tattoo for a while too. /nerd

Pics or it didn't happen!
Big Fallout choice for me is, build PC or buy XBONE...
The pictures of the Zim tattoos are from when I got them almost 10(!) years ago, they've actually held up pretty well:
Current pics of the BSG tat (it's a little over 3 years old. Also, it's hard to take pictures of your anke area):
