Interesting variation is the one posted on GTPlanet. Check out the shock rebound settings (!). I guess they REALLY don't want any forward weight transfer under braking!

That's wacky. Bet that tune came before they fixed braking.

Some photos of race time shenanigans with Hoopie that I finally got around to grabbing: That N360 is a hoot to drive on a course with elevation changes on braking.

And the Nova that strangely loves being offroad.

Nice.

I've been working on a 500pp RUF BTR tune. I think I have it just about right. I'll share it later.

Has anybody been trying the new seasonals? How in the name of flaming blue perdition is anyone herding that stupid Stingray around Daytona in under 2:00 without all the aids?

Really?! I am pretty sure I did that one first try. Of course, I have a fair amount of time at Daytona. One of the keys to that course is clipping the chicane right. You can get into it way faster if you cut that first corner pretty good and make sure to slow a bit to exit.

The one I HATED was the stupid Jaguar. That is a horrible understeer mobile! I also don't like the tuned car challenges. I normally takes me a few tries until I start wondering why everyone is so wildly faster then me.

I resorted to a tune off gtplanet for the jag seasonal. It was still understeery and I had to tune it to be even more loose. A lot of top tuners are still using the srf aid since leaderboards allow it so I suspect thats why I had to tweak it.

I admit to being pretty unfamiliar with Daytona, but for me, anything that's not banked is a brake-crawl-point-shoot exercise. I can't carry very much speed through any of the narrow parts of the course.

How do you clip the chicane without it screaming about you leaving the course?

You have to drive the Vette very smoothly. Getting the bus stop right easily shaved half a second off my time. I had another lap that was half a second faster still, but I clipped the curb a little too much and the lap got DQ'd.

In reply to Duke:

The Corvette rotates on the power so TC might not let you get the car around quick enough. I found it seemed to really like being on power oversteer to go fast.

Also just wait for the 2nd run to really try hard. You can carry a lot more speed into Turn 1 on the second lap.

The braking into Turn 1 is crucial I found the car can handle more speed through the arc of Turn 1&2 if I got it settled down before turning in. Then I can stay full power on to the turn 3 International Horseshoe.

Then basically all through the infield to the back straight the car seemed to be somewhat more stable that I thought initially at full power out of the corners. But it meant really getting the car slowed down first then getting it set into the turn then feed the power on rather quickly.

The bus stop can be taken with some aggressive curb hopping in and out. I ignore the suggested braking and gear signal for this section. Like Air said you can really gain time here. Kind of like and offset lane of cones at an autocross where you can slow a little then toss the car through with lots of curb.

I just got the gold after 5 or so laps and left.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I had TCS and ABS at 1, no SRF.

In case anyone is interested, there is a League that I have run in that is doing races on Tuesday nights (I am busy Tuesdays). I am pretty sure it's a bit late to get into the race tonight, but you might be able to do next week. They are not as good as the GRM crowd, but generally courteous.

They are doing a 400pp challenge. Be warned, the race are LONG. This weeks is Tsukuba... 42 laps!!

Interestingly, half of them are running FWD cars!!

I tried the daytona seasonal and for some reason I just can't get familiar with the car. I think I got corner exit down, but braking and entry are aweful. Plus I don't think i've ever once gotten the first corner right in the history of me playing gran turismo.

I found a fun game. Take a Honda life step van, buy everything you can for it, and use the following suspension setings- Height at maximum, springs at minimum, dampers and roll bars at minimum, some rear toe out, and max camber. Put racing soft tires on. Now, take a lap of the nurburgring and count the roll overs. I think it would be even better wheel to wheel. if you get into a heated race with someone and start pushing it a bit, you roll. It would be fun to watch.

I've just started turning on skid recovery force and going for the best time I can. I can't stand the time trials, I hope they throw some actual races in at some point. The one and done aspect of the money annoys the hell out of me.

What if they upped the motivation? Like if you get 2 seconds faster than gold, you start earning an extra $100k per second?

I am still running Redbull Juniors when I get low on cash. I still havent got the hang of the new Redbull series that is now available. Holy E36 M3 its fast. I can keep up with AI mostly but its pretty easy to lose control of the car which is my problem. Even leaving the TCS on 5.

In reply to failboat:

Yeah I just don't have a knack for driving the full on red bull cars. They seem so hard to put the power down with. If I run TC at 5 then I can't seem to catch the top 2 cars. With TC to 1 or 0 I eventually tap another car or end up off line and when I try to correct it instant spins. In GT5 I never really wanted the Formula GT nor the red bull but this time around I wanted to try and take the challenge.

BTW I think that the red bull juniors are fun in opposition to the full red bulls.

I find the full Red Bull cars a silly exercise. Interesting, but silly.

Pretty much impossible to drive with a controller and they make you feel like you are on crank with a wheel.

The big redbull car is just annoying. The only perk is that a 5 lap race is over in no time!

The fan car challenges weren't as bad as they were on gt5 though.

I love the snow rally seasonal.

It may not be a perfect simulation of loose surface racing physics but it is tons of fun!

I just used the TME I won from some series. I may go back with an Evo8 and see what it can do.

My son is working on this one right now with an EVO 5. Updates & info here: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/simulation-central/kazoospec-juniors-rally-challenge/79259/page1/

He's currently about 1.5 seconds behind Spool and Monkeyboy. Send me a friend request if you haven't already and his times will show up. PSN screen name is the same as here.
