You can also size up wheels 1 or 2 inches from what came on the car
I picked up mine on the way to work, and now have an 8 hour wait to get started on it.
I'm kinda sad to see the used car lot go. It's more convenient now, but I liked popping in and seeing what oddball cars were there.
Can't wait to grab my Mazda2, the Spoon Fit, and a Boss 302!
The linked video review talked about 100's of combinations, so there does appear to be some additions.
Another tidbit: Apparently Shuffle Races are currently not in GT6.
They may be added later, and I certainly hope so. They were one of best aspects of GT5 online.
Another thing I just noticed, you don't get a new car every time you win a race. It's kinda nice, and the cars you do get (you get bonus cars for getting golds in everything) are pretty awesome. You can win the majority of the cars you need with just the Fit you are forced to buy, and then use those to win other races. I bought an RX8 because I like them, but really only used it for a couple races so far.
Heads up: getting all golds in the A licence gives you a free ktm x-bow, also you need to get teh A licence to unlock the moon, online, and goodwood.
FYI I fail at being an astronaut. My first attemt had 3 flips and only 1 successful barrel roll. If we end up on the moon, someone else should drive.
Edit: also I can't believe they pay you 30K to drive the moon rover. crazy.
Edit 2 because I'm not a post whore: I hope we can have moon races. Rovers or electric cars that don't need air to function. I imagine Lunar tesla racing would be pretty awesome.
by all means post whore it up. some of us will be living vicariously through the rest of you for a few weeks. dont forget a pic of something awesome every now and then. haha.
so for someone out of the loop since GT4....
learn me: the paint chip system
can I apply manufacturer colors from 1 car to another?
if i win a paint chip I can only use it once?
can i buy more paint chips with game credits?
paint chips can be applied to the body OR wheels?
also any other useful tips/info other than what I asked
The way chips work (in GT5 at least) is you can only use them once. If you obtain a car (by whatever means) then you get a chip for whatever color that is. You can use any paint chip on any car (or wheel).
So yes, there have been a few cases of me buying a Plum Crazy Challenger just for the paint chip so I can paint another car. The pink LFA was another unique car color chip to buy (very pricey for just the paint of course)
You cannot buy paint chips, just cars with that color. They did have a DLC with paint chips and I am sure they will do that again, but I am sure you are not talking about that.
You can paint bodies and wheels (each counts as one use). Some wheels cannot be painted though (not a lot of them though)
is there a set of base colors that is always available? or is it a matter of always buying something to get the associated paint chip color? or winning the chip etc...
Yes, you tend to win them randomly at events (e.g. seasonals).
There is a "starting collection" that you get, but I don't think there are any colors that you would never run out of.
BTW - In GT6, so far, you cannot gift cars anymore. Less necessary because of the elimination of the Used Lot, but that was also a good way to exchange colors.
(sorry - Ruf and I are kind of stepping on each other.... typing war!!)
I'll check but i'm not sure. I do remember from GT5 I always had more paint chips than I needed, except for the cool color changing ones from TVR, luckily those cars aren't too pricey.
The chrome/gold chips were rare, though... thankfully...
I still would like it to just be free, though. Kinda stupid buying a TVR just to paint the wheels on an RX7....
In reply to Rufledt:
I thought I was the only one who did that. I have a fleet of 3 or 4 used special edition Miatas just so I can paint my primary "race fleet" Montego Blue Mica. I had kind of hoped you could use credits to purchase paint chips.
FYI: Online races pay E36 M3. Got 1000 credits for 2nd in a race of 4 people.
Whatever you pick as your racer name also shows up in online rooms. So I'd advise against your last name if you don't want it out there.
Verdict on load times/menu speeds? Gameplay slowdowns?
Someone do this for me:
I'm curious how long that initial 1.2 gig update is going to take once I get home.
I've probably got time to grab a shower and snack before it finishes.
ProDarwin wrote: Verdict on load times/menu speeds? Gameplay slowdowns? Someone do this for me: * turn ps3 off * start timer * turn on PS3 and, open GT6, choose a car/track and start a race * check time when race begins * how many minutes, hours, or days have passed?
It's the same as other, normal games. It doesn't load like a GT game at all.
Yeah not too bad. The load times are fairly long, but I think it installs as you go, so it isn't as slow the second time. Plus it hides load times with cool intro camera shots.
it also seems like the licence tests don't really get any harder as they go. Of the International A tests, only one of them has given me trouble (the one with the Corvette, took 6 tries to get gold), the rest were gold on first try.
Menus are much faster, track loading is fast, but also allowed you to change settings while it loads which is nice. Some other observations:
Tires are much more progressive and WAY louder then GT5, which is nice for hearing what you are doing.
Nitrous is back, but is really expensive (100,000 CR).
The games drives VERY different then GT5 with all aids of and steering set to Simulation with a wheel. Steering is much heavier, more feedback. Oversteer is far easier to get. Cars will tend to get away from you a lot easier, spins are a lot harder to stop.
The ability to change setting while driving (via that menu) appears to be gone.
AI is still clinically stupid. Prepare to be pit maneuvered and get wildly brake dived.
Licence test show any friends attempts while you do yours in the form of a drawing line which is interesting.
Cars seem to have a lot more "personality". The Miata is a fun balance. The Europa has a very light feel to it. The 2nd gen MR2 is rather vicious, it has a deadly trail brake oversteer! That car is evil! If you start to slide, you are going around. It is an interesting challenge. I drive mid and rear engined cars in GT all the time, and I could not get the MR2 around a lap in 3 or 4 tries. The Europa, despite being a MR car clearly drives differently.
The blind spot warning (cars to your right or left out of sight) is nice to have.
Visual, the game is pretty similar but the track have a lot more detail. Autumn Ring now has a bunch of colorful trees around it.
Brake upgrades are now available and they are useful. You have to work real hard to lock up the brakes in a Europa, newer cars are a lot easier.
I have not saved up enough for a muscle car, but I am interesting to see how the leaf spring cars handle (not so good I am hoping )
Did anyone else reserve at gamestop? You get a bunch of free cars with a redeem code that can help out a alot.
FYI, not even fully maxed out for upgrades, a Huayra or however you spell that can go 289 MPH (298 in a draft is the best I've gotten )
I like the PP limits on some races, too, It makes the racing a bit closer. If you get your car to the maximum allowed PP it's a little too easy like usual, but not like escudo vs. honda civic easy.
In reply to Rufledt:
I reserved from GS too, I'm curious if the cars are available to use after the mandatory Fit purchase.
It looks like I'll find out in 10 minutes or so.
I didn't put the code in before purchasing the fit, but when I did put the code in they all appeared in my garage.
I'm kinda upset there's no leaderboard on the goodwood races...
Bonus cars can be used anywhere they are legal and it's a pretty good selection of cars.
BTW - you can get the bonus even if you didn't pre-order. All the discs in the store on day one have a code, so until they run out of those you will get one.
Nick, the Bandit car appears to be a tuner car, so it's not a stock firebird. I am pretty sure they don't have any Fairmonts anyway
