I hosted a big multi-forum GT3 competition way back when, and the full-build Integra Type R was the assigned vehicle. At least half a dozen people driving the ITR beat a 5-lap race against the TS020 - around Seattle.

did GT3 have an online thing?

Does anybody know if GT6 is going to have a B-spec thing?

I read an article that you could switch to b spec mode during a race, just like it was in GT4

No, but we would get teams together from each of the major international forums. People would submit proposals for singe-race setups, usually with a specified car and prep level, and then vote on the scenarios. We would run 6 or 8 rounds offline, 1 per week, and contestants would submit full-race replays for review at the deadline. Fastest time won and points were awarded by place. Team with the most points won the contest. It was a huge amount of fun, but also a huge amount of work.

GT5 was the first online as I remember.

No B-spec from what I hear. I didn't really like it myself.

At some point I am going to need to figure out how to make decent credits in the game though. Otherwise doing a series with any kind of race cars will require a serous time commitment. The career races seem to top out at about 30,000. With race cars going for over a million (some of the cool old ones go over 10 mill), doing 30 races to get one car is a bit much!

Or do you get 1st, 2nd and 3rd for winning? In that case it would be about 65,000 and 15 races. Still a lot.

It might not be too bad though. Series races tend to work out a lot better with lower power cars. Doing a test prototype style race resulted in us throwing out that idea very quickly (way to easy to run into each other).

Found a decent database that shows all the cars available, stats, cost ect:

Get into the higher classes, IA races payout a good amount per time invested. I bet the super ones pay even more but I don't have a car to do the GT world Championship needed to get access to the super licence tests, and as you say, they aren't cheap. Plus I blew half a million on that Mazda RX500, and another couple hundred thousand on that daihatsu mira... looks like credits will become a problem, I just hope they don't cap it at 20 million like in GT5.

some of the cars are at least a bit cheaper, the 787B is 2.1 million instead of 4.7 or whatever it was before.

Also I take back what I said about not being able to drift, I can do it just fine with the controller, not the 900 degree G25 wheel, though. I know Rfactor has a setting to limit the wheel to different ranges of motion and thus speed up steering ratio, does GT6? I should check...

Edit: it does not.

Someone tell me about the AI, please. I assume they still drive like rookies; I'm used to that and it doesn't bother me much.

But what I really hate is getting a field of cars, 90% of which you can pass before the first turn, 1 or 2 you might have a decent race with, and then the one insane car that takes off and completely wastes everybody. This was bad in GT4 and not much better in GT5.

Running a car that has any hope of catching the rabbit effectively turns the race into a duel that is slightly complicated by some large debris on the first lap.

Hmmm.... Overpowered Daihatsus sounds like a good name for a race series though.

I can only find an incomplete list of career races so far, but this is the highest one they show:

International B: Historic Racing Car Cup - PP-750 - 1979 or older car needed

Tracks

  • 1-Cote d’azur-4 laps-29310-19050-14606
  • 2-Apricot Hill-4 laps-28290-18390-14140
  • 3-Silverstone-4 laps-30090-20080-15400

I think you are right though, International A and Super should jump the prizes up a bit.

I also hate following the AI in tight areas, since they have a tendency to slam on the brakes at random.

Yeah and in my experience the IA races aren't really any longer, they just pay out better and you can use faster cars. again, have not gotten to the super ones yet but I imagine those could be longer/pay better. Still no endurance racing I've found yet.

Most of the ones I have done are not too bad that way, most might have a small group that is up front but not a rabbit. The first Muscle car one (I think) has a Cobra as a "rabbit" car though (way faster then the other stock cars). No way you are catching that in anything stock other then the GT40 that is part of the pre-order pack.

drat. I am a grad student so I spend a great amount of time sitting at my computer and reading/writing, and it was always nice to let the Bspec guy drive in the background and win me money.

Also I found out the stockyard is to store cars you aren't using, it has a limit of 9999 while the garage limit is 1000

Even leno doesn't have 10,999 cars in real life

I remember when I got GT4 I would set B spec up on a race, then go to work for the day. I would totally do that again if it were available.

I think there are some minor endurance races. Something about 24 min race at Spa. I know there is a race in there somewhere with the fuel and tire use set to high. I am pretty sure there are no 1 hour / 12 hour type races though.

I always thought the 24 hour races were excessive, but I kinda liked the 1-4 hour races

Funny, that's what I used! It was the one car I had that worked for that race. I still haven't purchased more than 5 cars or so, I'm just using the anniversary/prize cars.

ok here's my car list so far excluding anniversary cars: 91 NSX (prize)
Delta HF (prize)
V16T (prize)
StingRay Racer Concept (prize)
XNR Ghia Roadster (prize)
Range Rover Evoque (prize)
SL55 AMG (prize)
MiTo 1.4 (prize)
Fit (forced purchase)
Scirocco R (prize)
Benz AMG VGT (free vision car)
Clio R.S. (prize)
Kart Junior (prize)
Light car company Rocket (prize)
S2000 (prize)
GT350 '65 (actually purchased)
RX-8 (purchased)
Kart 100 (purchased for kart race)
HighEnd G37 (prize)
'70 Challenger R/T (prize)
X-Bow (prize)
Evo VI TME (prize)
Super-Daihatsu Mira (purchased because 588hp)
Click Type-R (purchased because grizz told me to)
GT by Citroen (prize)
RX500 (purchased because I wanted it)
Boss 302 (same as above)

It seems they don't motivate you to buy anything with the lineup of prize cars. I don't think I purchased more than the Kart 100 because I needed it for a race, but things might be different if I didn't have the anniversary cars.

I really like the 1-4 hour enduros. Always bothered me that Forza never had any long races that actually require a pit stop for refueling and tires. I even broke out GT4 last year for some weekend endurance racing fun. I read up on a few race report guides on GTP to find some tunes that had me fighting for the lead for a vast majority of the race. I didnt catch 1st till the last 20 minutes or so and it was pretty cool actually having to try to win such a long race.

agreed, the challenge makes it fun. That's why I loved the grm spec races that I ran in (early on only, stupid life got in the way), it was much closer and quite a challenge chasing down the leader. I think the one Nascar at LeMons race was pretty exciting, I crashed out first lap and had to pit, then spent the whole rest of the race slowly gaining on apexcarver, my heart rate never dropped below 120bpm the whole race!
