I have had bad luck with the hyper 212. Poor CPU contact and or the thermal heat past it comes with seemed to be very poor. I replaced the thermal past with some Arctic Silver and that helped allot. At that point I went to Noctua and yes it adds anywhere from $50-80 to the cost compared to the 212. The funny part is my sone has used Hyper 212 on two builds both Intel based and they worked perfectly for him. I suspect I am either just not installing them right or I got a couple with a bad batch of thermal past.
Anectodal counter: I had a 212 for about 10 years that I just retired with my latest build, and the only reason I retired it is because the bracket didn't work with Ryzen CPUs. Getting the bracket alone was hard to find so I just coughed up the $30 for a new one, that is almost identical.
You can't go wrong with Noctua, but on a budget I would lean toward Hyper 212 Evo. Its the Miata of CPU coolers.

I have an old dell Square shape case.
Going to try out the MX5 rookie class and do some paved oval racing. Maybe a couple tracks to start off. Btw, Not all heroes wear capes!

Completely agree. I re purposed one of my sons old builds and used his 212 on a 6700k for a office machine. Works perfect. I bet that 212 is 7 years old and going strong.
Update:
Well, I'm going give a go. Going to do what ProDarwin recommends. The difference being is I got a monitor and going to use a desk in the beginning. Eventually upgrading to VR and a rig in the future. Not going to wait until I get $2k to start. Use what is available. Thanks again for the help!
That + a desk + playseat challenge + UW monitor is a great entry level setup. This is (a crappy photo) of my setup. It's had a few tweaks since then, but is very similar. If things were different I would say come on by and give it a shot.
I use the play seat as well. (This one)
The over all it is great. Very strong. The one thing that I would do over is not having the support for the wheel in the center between your legs. It gets in the way of left foot braking and heal and toe. Other than that it is an excellent rig. I use my plasma TV as the monitor. The FPS is not as good as a gaming monitor but i also do allot of sim stuff on PS4 so the PC is inti grated in to the media center with my PS4 and cable box. Makes it a one stop location in my house to game at the expense of FPS when using the PC. BUT it saves me the cost of a 2nd monitor and I really have not noticed any real issue with only gaming at 60FPS as that is the max my TV can get to.

How do you like the entry-level Playseat? I've been considering making certain compromises so I can get a rig built sooner rather than later, than upgrade at a later date.
It works pretty well. I could've made something cheaper, but I went this route because I like that I can fold it up and put it away if I want to free up space. Also its super light and I can slide it right up under my desk and transition from normal desktop to race sim mode in about 30 seconds.
My biggest gripe is the lack of a good shifter mount. I built a shifter mount for it that is less than ideal (and almost the same as the add-on they offer), so I might have to look at that again, but for the most part I've been playing Dirt Rally 2.0 and using the paddle shifters anyway.

Nice. Mine's a little more modest but its a start.
I have an idea with taking a sprint kart chassis and turning into a modulated rig. Basically, Set it up for Iracing and switch it over as a 4cycle autocross kart. Have the plan written out. If someone wants to do it first, Please do.

Nice. I had the old Fanatec CSL seat, with three monitors on a foldable picnic table for last setup. But Fanatec has quit selling the seat and their entry level wheel/pedal setups.
Add in the need for the monitors, new computer, and wheel/pedals...................it's going to be quite a chunk of change to do it how I REALLY want to. As this is really the rig I want to build.
