Anyone else excited about No Man's Sky?

Sort of... I'm still trying to figure out if it's going to be the reason I buy a PS4 or basically just an infinite version of Spore with even less to do. I am hopeful though!

Spore pissed me off. It was great, until you got to the meat of the game, and then it sucked.

I usually don't pre-order, but with 20% off with my Amazon Prime, I figured what the hell.

The answer is yes, I am excite. Though equally bummed that they don't have an Xbox one release. I have no desire to drop that kind money on a PS4 or gaming PC.

Like some of you have implied, it'll be interesting to see if the gameplay will be dynamic enough once the novelty has worn off. That said, I don't really care ATM, I just want to play it. I grew up reading my dad's Analog subscription so it might take a while for it to wear off on me personally.

This.

I think of other procedural generated games and how quickly they become monotonous (to me). Diablo is a great example.

Adventure Time has a great episode regarding this stuff: Dungeon Train

This.

That.

I absolutely love the concept of being able to fire up a game and be utterly, completely lost out in some unexplored region of space... but the gameplay videos so far show some pretty damn repetitive stuff. Another space station, another species of animal made out of the same basic parts, sentinels that are the same everywhere. I think I'll have to wait and see.

I'm with singleslammer. I've been bummed too many times after a pre-order to get caught up in that crazyness again. I'll wait for reviews and see whassup. Then plunk down my cash if I find it appealing enough.

I jumped on the hype train a couple of weeks ago.

If anyone is on the fence, there are two leaked gameplay videos. One is 5 minutes of the intro, and the 2nd is about 25 minutes. No real spoilers but shows what the game will really be like, and its better than anything Ive seen before.

I'm still on the fence. I wish they would include base building, greater ship customization, clans, greater PvP, etc.

It would be cool to create a Planet GRM that we all could hang out on.

The fact that I'm already seeing reviews claiming boredom doesn't give me a fuzzy feeling

My son got his copy yesterday. He loves it. I watched for a few minutes and found it completely mind-numbing. The pace of the game is extremely slow. There's basically no interaction with anything that isn't AI, at least thus far. (My son seems to think there will be "live player" hubs that will eventually develop once more of the map is explored and charted) To me, it seems like an extremely one dimensional game - explore space, find stuff so you can build a better ship and - explore more space.

I'm having fun, exploring and getting better stuff. I had it crash twice last night when I tried to warp out of the system. So that's a downer.

I completely understand that the pace of this game is not for everyone.

The developer mentioned multiply times about being able to see each other but not being able to interact. So far there has been a couple people that have met up only to find they couldn't see each other. I'm guessing they are still working bugs out and could implement it later on. Frankly, I don't really care about that.

It's a bit of mix of old school computer games. A touch of Myth and trying to figure out puzzles, a bit of an RPG and trying to better you player... then there's the space fighting and FPS side of things. But the game doesn't do any of those things like a dedicated game would.

It's an interesting game, but I could see a bystander bored to tears as you endlessly look at menus.

I'm still having fun and hopefully I get to warp out of my first system soon either by blind luck around this bug or a patch. Either way there is a ton of stuff to explore on the two planets and the two moons. Even underwater stuff!

So, the PC release hasn't gone well. Lots of bugs and issues but the dev seems willing to fix it. But I'm still excited. Excited enough to buy a $1300 Asus laptop to replace my 8 year old Toshiba dinosaur. Maybe now I can play games that came out in the last decade

I love open world games like this. I still play Fuel, which was a mediocre game at best. Also 1nsane still gets played a lot. As well as SpinTires.

I'm the type that will explore every last nook and cranny. I love games like this.

For all the talk that the developer did about this feature or that, lots of those little bits of game play are missing. It does seem that they want to put them back into the game, and I'm guessing they were removed to get the game out in time. Probably pressure from Sony.

Some of the reviews on this are BRUTAL.

Sounds like a very interesting game for the first few hours, but falls very flat. They probably should have gone with a much smaller universe (say just one system) and concentrated on making that better. Planets are big, plenty of space to explore etc.

There is a hope that they fell very far behind in their development of the game new things will be added. Probably a bit of wishful thinking but...

I'm still having fun with it for what it's worth.

Without actually reading a review, the fact that Gamestop already had a few pre-owned copies so soon told me all I needed to know.

Looks like most major retailers are now offering refunds too.
