I am no where prepared to start racing but the boys and I have finally caught up to the 20th century with a PS3 and GT5 (GT6 will be here soon as well, but first things first)

There was an exploit which is now closed. The best way to make money is to do the Seasonal events. Log in every day for 5 days - even if you only make 1 try at 1 event. Each consecutive day you log in increases your payout multiplier, up to 200%. Logging in every day will hold that 200%, and the seasonal event payouts are pretty hefty compared to the offline events. Online is definitely the place to make money. Have fun!
I used to b-spec grind like CRAZY. Set it and forget it, with the 200% bonus. At one point I owned literally every car available in GT5.

Welcome to the party.
To earn cash in the GT5 log on ever day. Then get the Lupo VW and tune it to about 385pp. Bring the gearing all the way down and run the 430PP challenge at Autumn Ring Mini. 5th place nets you 1.1M with the log on bonus and the lower PP bonus. I never won this race I usually got between 4th and 6th place.
