I've recently picked up an old TS250 and have started going through it to see what it needs. It's in generally good shape, just old for the most part. My question is: how high should it idle? Today it was idling at like 3k, which seems high. It does have a pod filter instead of the factory airbox. I imagine that might not be helping. Keep in mind this is my first 2-stroke so answer like I'm 5 year old

My brain is fading... rotary valve with carb at the crank? is the idle set by a rod going down through the top of the slide instead of a screw in the side of the body? If the rod gets bent or corrodes they can hang the idle. Also fraid cable, but more then likely an air leak letting it run lean.
How does it react if you twist the wrist? Rev right up or stumble? When you let go of the throttle hows it return? hanging higher and drift down slow?

Slide is sticking. That or the cable is sticking and not allowing it to return

Sounds like I should pull the carb off and go through it then. I probably need new throttle cables so I'll pick a pair up.
