I have a 1976 Harley FXE, I need to get it rewired, I suck with electrical wiring, I was going to try to rewire it, but am not at that point yet.
I'm looking at returning the bike somewhat to stock, can anyone point me in the direction of stock length front tubes? I'd prefer new, but will get used if thats all I can find. I have a bunch of catalogs from various manufactures but still cannot find what I need.
Do you have the shop manual for that bike? The official HD shop manual, no other. If not, that should be the first thing you buy. I might have a manual at home that would either cover your bike or be pretty close. I know it covers a 79. Might be 78.5-79. Anyway, when I get home, I can look, and YOU look now for a HD shop manual. Try bikerbobsstore.com or J&P.
AMC harley. Did you get a good deal? Any pics?
I don't have any of the pics online, yes an AMC bike. My wife inherited it from her father, who ordered/bought the bike from harley in 76. I do have a shop manual, and have looked through J&P cycles, but they dod not have what I need.
Everything I have found are longer tubes, not the stock length.
I couldn't find the length in my book either. Look for a place called "Nostalgia Cycle." If they're still around, they would have info on that. Plus I think that an actual paper catalog from J&P might have the lengths. Look for "1 over" or "3 over" and subtract out from there to get stock.
Call up Departure Bike Works Richmond, VA. Serious old skool shop. If they don't have what you need they'll tell you where to get it. If you can, ask for Lee. He's the owner. The other guys are extremely competent but if you get Lee you can speak to the legend.
Here's an article on their biker build-off cycle, The Virginian.
