I was reading an article about them, and being that I want to save my neck literally, I wanted to hear from fellow GRMers on their experiences. The one i'm interested is from Spidi, and the bags are repackable, and reuseable, only thing you have to buy is a new co2 cartridge. let the opinions, commence!!!

link?

Edit: ok....watched the video on their website. even more mixed feelings on the idea.

any false fires when riding if the tether gets pinched or accidentally pulled?

tether doesn't release and ties you to the bike?

just my initial thoughts

From what I understand the tether is coiled, and 25kg of force will release the pin to fire the bags, also you wont forget it and drop your bike cause you'll feel a gentle tug when you forget to release the tether. I read a review in BIKE and thought it sounded good, when fired they deploy in .2 seconds, will cushion a blow to the ground, while also supporting the helmet so that the spine can't be compressed. and once deployed will deflate over several minutes, then can be repacked for use again.

less scary than an airbag ON the bike, like the Gold Wing

That sounds awesome! I have never given this much thought but I wouldn't mind looking into it.

Neon, what scares you about the Gold Wing's airbag? I certainly think it's strange, but it will keep you from impacting the huge instrument panel on the beast, right?

OK, scary is the wrong term, but rather thinking about the odds of getting into an incident where it would actually be benificial. I havent seen many frontal impact incidents on Motorcycles.

happens all the time. I t-boned a Taurus once. Their fault.....pulled out in front of me. I was thrown over the bars of my dual sport and the car, so the air bag wouldn't have helped....might if I'd been riding a monster like a goldwing though. I also hit a cullvert one time....I'll bet the airbag jacket would have kept me from bruising a kidney and pissing blood for days.

I work in crash safety, and yeah, with a new goldwing it is necessary because you probably will impact the fairing/other junk on the goldwing. Otherwise getting thrown off the bike and over the car is probably the best bet. I'd like to see tests with and without the jacket. I know Harley uses crash test dummies, I'd like to see that test.
