Anyone down for Bike Week this week?
Yup. I'm here. Down south past dunlawton way. Headed down to the beach racers memorial for 11am for this years unveiling. Then the main st crawl....people watching mostly.
Things are slow and empty this year. Thank god its warmer then last year.

That's my favorite part of Bike Week. I got some awesome/terrifying pics of an impromptu street stripper with missing teeth and "a few" extra pounds two years ago. I haven't brought my camera to Main street since.

Say What?!?!
Bike week? Don't you mean Trailer Week? The town is full of middle-age folks playing cowboys and indians.
Out of all the "special" events the Daytona area has, the biker weeks ( Spring and Fall) bring in the most $$ to the local economy, and cause the least trouble. We have to deal with PITA traffic, but any local knows the way around and can avoid the snarls.
The noise though you can't escape. It is like there is a fight between dragons going on at the end of the block. I used to like the sound of Harleys, now they just sound obnoxious to me.
I've always heard that sport bikes are unwelcome there, but does anyone ride up on a cool Norton, or maybe a Triumph, perhaps even a Vincent?

If there's any upside in the last few years, it's the diversity. Single-pin "potato-potato" bikes still dominate, but you're just as likely to see groups of sport bikes, streetfighters, standards, brit bikes, touring bikes, Gold Wings, and every other subgenre in pretty heavy numbers as well.
Still, though, it's amateur hour. If my bike comes out this week it's for a short ride. The sheer volume of bikes sort of makes people forget they're still operating on public roads.

I was going to watch the Daytona 200, but I spent the money I was allocating towards the trip. On the motorcycle, go figure... Replacing a broken shifter turned into a shifter, frame sliders, and a complete set of frame sliders. And a 3/8" socket set and deep hex set to install the sliders.
Here's an off topic note: If you fix something temporarily, don't let it become permanent. I used a bolt as a shifter for a few thousand miles, only to have it break in traffic.

JG's right, the variety is out there. Today I saw a girl on a motard--but of course she was wearing shorts, no helmet, and kind had trouble stopping at the line.
trailer week well Yes but there was 8ft of snow when i left! So yes i trailered down. Hauled 3 other bikes to help pay for the gas bill.
Just got back in to home about 1 hour ago.
about 20 miles from the house i lost the front axle stub on the drivers side axle!.... Yup it cracked right on the factory weld wheel cambered in to the wheel well and smoked all to hell. funny they were new tires and rims but that one was lossing presure so i changed it before i left ormand beach.
Took wheel off blocked the supention and crawled home...2miles from home hit bump lost the wood block and drum hit ground and finished the job...stubs 100% off now. but we home safe and sound.
Put close to 300 miles on the bike and watched some great races.
