Figure he's going to likely outgrow his 50cc centrifugal clutch single speed thingie this summer, so I found a scruffy XR80 and brought it home.
Teaching him to ride this, that's going to be interesting. Now we'll be dealing with a machine that can do wheelies (something he desperately wants to try) and such, and requires learning to use a clutch.
If he's anything like my kids, it'll take him about 15 minutes to master the clutch. They also learned on an XR80.

Man, I had an XR75 when I was about 9-12 and I loved that thing to DEATH, even when I busted my front teeth out on it. Coming from a Yamaha Mini-Enduro 60 2-stroke, the 75cc 4-stroke was a damn torque monster. It was my favorite bike I've ever owned.
It was a great ride! My dad bought it 3-4 years used from a friend of his who's son had outgrown it, I rode it for 3 or 4 years, he sold it back to the friend, then bought it back again later, and finally we gave it to my nephew.
My first riding expereince: 1983 Honda XR80.
I was probably 12 or 13.
Fun times!
At least its not a cr80, those things scare the hell out of me :)

If you're ever out towards Summit Point, I can probably get you another beater XR80 if you're interested. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
