It was just above 40* so not real cold but it was cold enough that I got a good idea of where I need more protection.
The helmet is a big improvement over my old one. It's lighter, has great visibility, the visor doesn't fog but even with all of the vents shut it still flows way too much air. The top of my head was frozen after about fifteen minutes. I believe my old helmet will be better in the cold but I still need some kind of head and neck protection.
I got some heavier insulated full leather gloves and some glove liners. I felt the air coming in the stitches and seams at 30mph. About forty minutes was all it took for my hands to be frozen and in pain. Also they are not quite long enough to cover the cuffs of my jacket. Some full gauntlets are needed.
The jacket worked wonderfully. Comfortable and warm no complaints. The test for this one will be in the summer.
I have to get some kind of protection for my legs. Jeans with thermal undies do not cut it.
Well, when it gets below 40 here, I put on snow pants

Balaclava & real motorcycle overpants & actual cold weather motorcycle gloves will solve pretty much all of the above.
And I'd recommend overpants with the longest side zippers you can find; I bought some that stop below the knee and they're a PITA to take on and off with shoes still on. This makes them fairly horrible for commute duties.

My setup is from Klim, its very good at versatility and waterproofness but it could be warmer. The wife's gear is from Revit, she never complains about being cold on a ride but it's a pita to change layers, 1 waterproof, 1 thermal, 1 safety layer. If it's warm and it starts to rain, I zip the vents shut, she needs to put the waterproof liner in. I'm going to try alpinestars next time around.

Once you stop the wind, you stay plenty warm.

u could also try latex gloves under ur motorcycle gloves to help stop the wind hitting ur hands and keep ur hands warm. frog toggs make great riding rain gear that also stops wind.
Full gauntlet leather gloves and glove liners work for me, even in 30 degree weather.

Nope, still wearing leather gloves, they breathe enough that you don't get all sweaty.
Weird, if I happen to forget my winter gloves and do the latex glove thing I end up cold half way home because of my hands getting damp.
Going to try heated grips next

Check out a painter supply store. They sell a hood that works great for head and neck under a helmet for like $2.00!
For gloves - try seam-sealed, waterproof arctic ski mittens and wear a pair of Spyder or Sirius synthetic liners under them. I'm doing 45+ mph all day on a ski hill at -15F without cold hands. It's my damn toes that give out first.
