The my left exhaust on my 75 Suzuki GT380 split in half (jaggedly) where the silencer meets the expansion chamber. It can probably be welded, but if it isn't I was considering a three-into-one set up to reduce weight and get some mid-range power. Omar's DTR has one for $565. What says the board?
If it's aftermarket sheetmetal chamber TIG the crack and/ or add a doubler... unless yur itchin' to spend money for new exhaust.

I was thinking along your lines. It is aftermarket. My only concern was a repeat performance.
Brought the pipe to a welder to whom I was referred. He examined the pipe with me there and showed me where a PO had the pipe repaired once before by brazing. It was along the brazing that it cracked. It will have to be re-brazed. I just some new high-strength rod in. I volunteered to be the guinea pig. I am going to have to try to rig another hanger further aft (in addition to the existing hanger. There is too much silencer weight aft of the existing hanger.

Once brass is in the mix, TIG is off the table.
Braze properly, and make new silencer hangers that actually work, you'll be good.
Also, for cool 2-stroke stuff check out HVC Cycles if you haven't. They've got it all.

Welder melted off the brass, cleaned up the pipe and TIGed it beautifully. I will post a pic. I found this guy because he started advertising in my wife's local magazine. He was reasonable too. Charged $75 for removing the old brass, cleaning up the pipe and doing a very good TIG job. If anyone needs a welder in NE PA, I can recommend one.
