That is totally awesome. Great work. It's not my kind of bike to ride, but it's still amazing to look at.

I got to see that bike in person! I was in NZ visiting a friend and we checked out a museum that was nearby just for the fun of it. Walking into the main room I saw this an almost choked up I was so surprised. It was beautiful and difficult to believe how modern it all still looked for how old it really is. Damn that is a cool bike. I have to dig through my pics, I have a few of it with me fawning over it.

Man... you could have saved a 22hr flight... there is one on display in the museum at Barber Motorsports Park in AL.

His whole story (except the part where he died young) is really cool.

John Britten was a true 'outside the box' visionary. Damn shame he went so young.

Oh no! I flew all the way to NZ just to see it and there's one here? ;-)

Saw the Britten at the Te Papa in Wellington NZ also... berkeleying amazing. I stared until my wife tore me and my 3 year old boy away from it. In his GARAGE! Granted, a better garage than mine, but in his berkeleyING GARAGE!!

I got to see a Britten raced in anger at Road Atlanta when the Gravity Cavity was still in place. It was the WERA Grand National Finals around '93 or '94 - I reckon it must have been George Barber's bike, and Nick Ienatsch from Cycle World was riding.

They'd spent a day playing with it in the paddock, readying it for use, and when they finally fired up the starter-wheel motor, ~everyone~ mobbed their paddock spot. It took a few tries before it lit off, but when it did - and I remember this really clearly - I was standing next to the crew chief for Dale Quarterly's very lusty and bellowing Ducati, and the sound gave him fully visible goosebumps.

On track, Ianatsch could carry the front wheel all the way down the hill into the gravity cavity, and he'd set it down at the bottom. It was about the only bike which didn't look out of shape at the bottom too.

And the sound was astonishing.
