You recommended a specific oil for either the primary, or transmission, or perhaps both. I think you said it made shifting much better. Darned if I can find that post by you. Can you repost your advise regarding primary or transmission oil in a Harley?
Yeah. I have found on my bike, a 86 FLHT, that running Mobil 1 ATF in the primary and Mobil SHC630 in the transmission has made it shift better than when it was new, and I opened the box it came it.
The Mobil 1 ATF is available at any auto parts store. The Mobil SHC630 I get from Grainger's. It is a heavy industrial gear lubricant, fully synthetic that lasts 6x longer than conventional gear oils, per the literature, and was designed for "life time fill" heavy industrial applications. Lotus used it as a base for keeping their Renault gearboxes together at 50% over the design HP.
HD's recommendation of putting the same oil in all three holes leaves a lot to be desired. Sure, it's convenient to only buy one kind of oil. Big deal.
