This thread is kind of pointless. I will be buying a bike in 3 or 4 weeks. An `85 Cagiva Alazzura 650 popped up on CL. It will likely be sold by the time I have cash in hand but I can't stop thinking about the damn thing.

The Cagiva was a just rebadged Ducati Pantah. Is belt drive Ducati ownership as expensive or heartbreaking as I am lead to believe? If I can keep a vintage fiat and an A4 GTI on the road am I likely to be defeated by the costs or needs of one of these old italians?

There NOTHING magical about working on them it just a pure process. Break it down in to small section you'll have no problems.

Check out Demotimes.com LT has a couple of good manuals that are easy to follow that will walk you through it all.

Wow thats hot!

The motors and carbs and electrics got better and better over the years quality wise, but its still effectively the same 2v air cooled motor going in Monsters today iirc. Once I had a chance to see the valve adjustment in person it was no longer nearly as scary as the internets makes it out to be, same with the belts.

I know with enough time and some effort the Cagiva can look like this.

The growl when the throttle is cracked is what is making me want one so bad

It looks to be a great way to get into ducati ownership for challenge money or less.

Nice looking frames on these.

I bet trimming the plastics under the seat would show that off nicely
