So I know BMW has it with their cars? What about their bikes? What about Ducati, or Moto Guzzi?

I ask because I have promised my wife a trip to Italy (actually been promising for many many years) we are looking at doing it for our 15 year anniversary, which means I still have a couple years to plan and investigate this idea further. But I have never purchased anything new, and I have never done factory delivery of anything. So with Ferrari and Lambo being waaaaaay out of my price range, I started thinking about bikes.

Obviously, this is just a dream at this point but does anyone know if any of these companies do factory delivery? I mean I understand if BMW doesn't, but Ducati and Guzzi only do bikes. Surely they have euro delivery of some sort right?

Don't think any of them have a factory pickup option.

You can rent great bikes all over the EU for moto touring so I'm not sure I'd care one way or the other about the option to do the euro delivery thing unless it was somehow cheaper and more convenient than renting. This also frees you to buy the bike of your dreams right now. Today. And ride it the whole couple years it takes you to plan your trip to Italy ;)

Yeah. Everything I find says no factory delivery. That makes me sad because what a cool option it would be.

And GPS you are right I could do that, but there is something very cool about saying you picked up bike up in Italy, toured around the country for a couple weeks with your lovely wife, and then shipped it back. And since I don't have a dream bike because I can't make up my mind about which one I want this morning vs which one I will want at lunch vs which one I will want tonight, I'll probably just wait.

It makes me hazz a sad though.

They are small and you can fit a bunch in a 1 car garage. Collect the whole set!

Funny, I said yesterday that they take up less space than a car.

Indian has factory delivery in Kings Mtn NC, although that isn't quite as sexy as saying you got it in Itlay...

This would be a great business model for about 5 years until the manufacturers catch on. One of you young bucks, or retired divorcees, could set up your own motorcycle export/ EU touring business.

RossD they have a lot of touring businesses in EU. Heck they even have some that go through Africa and across Russia. And they have exporters who ship cars and bikes home for US military personnel.

The problem is Joe Schmoe like me can't go into a dealer, order a bike but then pick it up at the factory and ship it home. BMW has this program for their cars but as far as I can tell no one has it for motorbikes.

I am going to call my local Ducati dealer today and check because I found this last night:

  1. Do you wish to purchase Ducati products directly from the factory?

It is not possible to purchase motorcycles, spare parts or accessories directly from the Ducati factor in Borgo Panigale, Bologna. However, it is possible for visitor to purchase a selection of Ducati branded apparel and merchandise in the museum shop, In addition, just a few metres from the factory, you can visit the “Ducati Factory Shop” where it is possible to purchase apparel, accessories and both new and used bikes.”

And what is weird is when you click on the Ducati Factory Shop link in the response, it takes you to the Ducati Dealer locator section of the website...

In reply to octavious:

I realize those two businesses exist. The trick is that it would be under one roof, one contact, one person handling your money, one hand shake, one... smooth trip.

As an update I called the Ducati dealer and spoke to the Ducati rep. He advised Ducati used to have such a program in place but to his knowledge it ended in the 90s. Shame.

I have a feeling they will all be the same. I am going to call Moto Guzzi just to check.
