So he bought a 'wing. Silver, that is. 1982 GL500, with (I'm pretty sure) all the original stock pieces. It has the sidecases, trunk and even the passenger seat with a backrest. Pictures tomorrow, I promise.

They were a very nice, smooth, bike that, if run 'hard', was very surprising. I think the redline is up around 10,500 rpms! it's getting hard to find an Interstate with all of the goodies intact.

It was real smooth. Surprising for a 30yo bike. I ride it home (45 miles, nighttime, fil is 74) and it took a while for me to get comfortable, turning 6000 rpm at 60 mph. You see, my bike redlines at 5500. The tach goes past 10k, maybe even to 11k; red mark is around 9750.

The GL500 is basically an upgraded CX500, which I know a thing or three about if you have any questions.

I would suggest replacing the rear shocks if they are 30+ years old, and add fresh oil to the fronts. I think the Silverwing used air shocks though, so I'm not sure what freshening them would entail.

It's got a single rear shock and it needs attention. It squeaks.

Awesome! I'm working on picking up a CX500 or 650.

Nice. I used to covet the dual-piston, dual-disc front brake setup. The CX500 could have used some help up there!

Man, that's twice now that a canoe bumped one of my threads.
