Sometimes, it's just not real. It can't be.

For Fathers Day, I got several hours to go puttering around, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But then I entered one little town, and crossed the line, into "the Twighlight Zone".

It started with the naked guy walking down the sidewalk wearing swim fins. Though on second glance, he wasn’t quite naked actually, he was wearing a pair of tiny black speedo’s. Wait a sec, those aren’t swim fins, those are beach shoes, he’s just walking like he’s wearing swim fins. Proudly carrying a beer shoulder high, Coors it looked like. Which might explain things.

I continue through this town, wondering about the residents when I encounter two signs, “no left turn” and “left turn”, on the same post. I figured one of them was probably right. Come around the left turn that really was there...

And here’s an Amish lady regally striding across her back yard with a basket of flowers. “Must be a back yard wedding” I thought. But then I noticed she dressed plainly, so no. And she’s the only one there. And that basket of flowers is actually a mixing bowl – of laundry. Catch a glimpse of motion and see her husband darting into the house. I ride by as she continues her slow march across her back yard to her house.

Putter on down the road and WHAM, out of the left comes crashing a brown bird. Slams into the pavement and skids across the roadway in front of me, flopping around. Two more spazmotic flops and it does the dead bug impression, flat on its back, feet stuck straight up. I’m at a near halt because I’m rather fascinated by this bird. Suddenly up pops the head, turns and looks at me, and “poof” off it flies. We have special birds here too in this town!

Now I’m finally headed out of town, and I see the good folk have repaved this section road. The road crew was having a “special” day when they did this. For while the road actually hooks sharply to the right, the road crew ran it straight, right up the shared driveway of a few houses. With a freshly painted a fresh new double yellow stripe! Right on up their driveway. Lots of interesting home made signs proclaiming this is not the road, and lawn chairs and picnic tables and such attempting to block the way.

And with that, I finally exited the town, and returned to reality.

That's hilarious. I love the double yellow stripe up someone's driveway.

Reminds me of this.

Had you had any fresh picked mushrooms earlier in the ride?

Would have been interesting to stop and have a cold soda or cup of coffee there.
