Well, I got tired of getting home and having jump off the bike, run inside, and press the door button.

So.....

I decided to install an opener into the bike instead of carrying the opener in a pocket and fumbling around for it.

Here is what I used.

  1. Spare opener (Minivan uses a homelink system, so did previous car)
  2. Radio Shack Momentary switch # 275-644
  3. a section of copper wire.

Opening the remote, I soldered a set of leads to both sides of the surface mount button, verifying continuity when "closed".

I then ran the wire under the tank, and to the front fairing. With a small hole drilled into the plastic fairing upper, I ran the wire up and out.

Then I soldered the momentary button to the end of the leads.

Shrinked wrapped everything and dropped back down into the hole. Nice, clean surface mount. secured with a small amount of silicon sealant.

(look for the small black dot)

Opener is under the seat and will be secured with 3m velco.

End result? Works perfect!

A quick drop of the hand to touch the button and I ride right into the garage.

5 minutes later, My neighbor had me do the same to his V-strom.

With this one, the button is hidden on the bottom of a piece of side trim, but still in easy reach.

I had one of those a long time ago Oldsaw. I used to push my kid's nose when he was about 8 and he'd bounce out of the car and open the door.
