A new "get to know my own area" project. I'm riding out to each of my county's 27 forest preserve sites.

First of twenty seven: Harrison Benwell — 74 acres 7055 McCullom Lake Road, Wonder Lake, IL

Two of twenty seven: Glacial Park — 3,382 acres Route 31 & Harts Road, Ringwood, IL

Three of twenty seven: Stickney Run — 629 acres 3216 West State Park Road, McHenry, IL

Shame I can't get to all of them this weekend, so I'll get the rest as I can. :)

How do you like your bike? The Royal Enfield appeals to me more and more as time goes on. I like the style and simplicity, I don't need to go a million miles an hour any more.

I LOVE it!

I ride it far more often them my K75RT.

It is not fast, it doesn't handle altogether well, but it is my very favorite bike at the moment.

Don't know what's up with the pictures. Every time photobucket updates, it becomes less intuitive and harder to do the simple things I want to do.

Photobucket sucks. Try Picasa.

I've been very impressed with the Royal Enfield, though have yet to ride one. It's a gorgeous bike. The thing that shocked me was I had a claim on one a guy had a minor wreck on. The parts are unbelievably cheap! If he'd been riding a Honda 250 Nighthawk it probably would have been totaled. Even the pre-painted stuff was priced in such a way mere mortals could afford to buy it. If I didn't want a Triumph Bonne as much as I do, that would probably be the next choice.

Want a fun stretch of road? Go to Alden were Charles Rd and RT 173 meet. Go North through town. Keep heading North to the state line. The road will do a little wiggle at the boarder. The part of the road north of that is one hilly road. Fun.

I'm familiar with State Line Road and the area around there. I also like Green Road between Altenburg and Charles. Lots of fun stuff around here! :)

Looks like a great bike to put around on. I talked to some Indian people about royal enfield and they told me how India nationalized the motorcycle factory and kept the royal enfield name alive while the original royal enfield went out of business.

Have fun, it really is interesting how much more you see on a motorcycle, great way to find neat old cars and you don't look suspicious on a motorcycle.

That's interesting, and worthy of a mental note for rationalization of getting one (I also like their lines).

Along those lines, but not as dramatic, I've been surprised at how affordable many of the Harley parts are. Unlike say Honda, who seems to think their parts are gold plated. Though I guess Harley makes it up front with the jaw dropping price of their bike itself.
