Nice! That is one way to clean the chrome :-)

I saw that pic pop up on advrider with Dave's Tenere abandoned in the background.

I was planning to do that ride since it's in my backyard but ... I was also supposed to be at summit point getting the enduro car ready for the Glen next weekend. And in my basement installing drywall. DOH!

I've been up Tower Road on the GS/A chasing a dirt tag - I'm not sure a lot of folks would suggest the Road King as the right tool for the job but it was a "Big Bikes" ride and, well, that i a BIG bike ;)

Big H-Ds in the dirt are notcompletely unpresidented.

Back in the late eighties There was a guy who entered, and completed, the Incas Rally in South America on a retired H-D police bike with minimal off-road preparation. Nearly all the other bikes enters were Baja or Dakar prepped big singles, only half of the entrants completed the rally.

I tried and tried but couldn't find the guy's name or a pic, but Harley made a big deal about it back then, and I think the bike is in their museum now.

I sure wouldn't do it!

No, the Road King wasn't the proverbial "right tool for the job", but it did it, and without much trouble. All that low end torque and the low center of gravity let me almost idle my way up it in first gear. The bike wasn't easily deflected by the rocks and such, while also still being maneuverable around as I went side to side on the road, picking my line.

Cool reading about Mr. Peet there!

There's another fella who took his Road King down through central and south america a few years ago. You can read about and look at pictures of his ride here in this thread: http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/central-and-south-america-on-a-road-king.603979/

Enola, PA. Search Google maps "tower road enola, pa". I'd suggest coming in from the north if you're going to ride it. The gravel on the south end is very deep and washed out. It would be darn hard to climb that on two wheels.

You can see some entertaining video's of it on Youtube, just search "tower road Enola". I did not ride it while wet and muddy. It was mostly dry when I went through the other day.
