Well, I'm down to three bikes to choose from right now. A recent move to Perth means that I can realistically ride all year round, and use a bike as my main vehicle (964 and CX9 back it up as alternatives if necessary). I'm looking at: '03 ZX6R with only 2700kms ($6000) '01 GSXR750 with 40,000kms ($5000) '02 ZX9R with 62,000kms. ($4000)

Now, don't mind the prices - stuff is expensive here. If it was your money - what would you buy and why? I love the ZX6R's, but am tempted by the cheaper GSXR. The ZX9 is fun to ride, and the cheapest, but it's pretty rough cosmetically.

What say you? Usage will be: commuter (SHORT commute), occasional trackday. I have 4 years riding experience on a ZX6E - all of these bikes are much, much more capable/faster.

ZX6. Lowest miles, you don't need much engine for what you're talking about doing with it, probably a little cheaper to insure and better on fuel/consumables.

agree with pres589, ZX6 is gonna have the lowest total cost of ownership from the information you presented.

The miles are well worth the extra grand.

I will say this the Gixxer 750 is one fine bike

The 636 powered zx6's are fine machines and out of those three, that's what I'd recommend.

To throw a wrench in your search, what do Triumph 675 Daytona's run down there?

I'd LOVE a 675 Triumph - probably more than any other bike - but I'd be looking at $8k with 40+k kms.

I sold my mint 03 gsxr600 for $3000 with 20,000kms. Those prices are nuts.

None of the above. If I was looking for a commuter/track day bike I would go for a supermoto.

636 would be my pick. And speaking of super motos, My friends have quite a few and top end rebuilds seem to be the norm every 30-40 hours. that equals bullE36 M3 track day bike from a cost per mile perspective. And yes they are mostly 1 year old 4 strokes so age is not a factor

In reply to Nathan JansenvanDoorn:

Ouch, I figured the UK would get favorable importation to Oz......but converting that to my retarded imperial understanding, around 26k mi and $6500...which is a bit high even for the US.

Since that is out, I'd go with the 636 as an all arounder. It'll serve you well.

The ZX636R is everything you'd want in a road'n'track sportbike aside from the presence of camshafts and valves.

Well, I think it'll be a 2000 GSXR750 for $3k. 37,000kms, needs some work to pass inspection (tires, mainly). I don't mind springing for fresh, matching rubber - so no big deal there. Notchy 2nd gear, so I may have to pull that apart one day. Bikes are definitely expensive here... along with everything else. :)
