I may have finally stumbled on the holy grail for my project bike at a price I cannot say no to. The problem is that it's 600 miles away in Cleveland.
Any ideas on how to get a rolling chassis transported for less than $300 (my cost to go pick it up)?
Strap it on a pallet and ship it freight?
Try u-ship
Cost me $400 to ship a bike from NC to Cleveland.
I sold a bike to a guy in FL that used them as well.
I hear Grayhound has cheap freight shipping rates. You may have to,disassemble the bike some. What are you buying? I am in Cleveland and may be able to help.
My calculations say you can drive a 4cyl 5spd ranger like my dads getting 26mpg round trip for 185 dollars. 282 dollars to take my z71 1200 miles at 17mpg on 4 dollar gas.
Plus you get to make a fun day trip just cruising and listening to the pipes sing.

Haven't checked U-Ship yet. I get the "appeal" of a road trip but the Sidekick will need a trailer (which I'd have to rent). I had hoped to get to a conference in Dayton in July, so if there was a way I could have someone inspect it then hold it until July so I could pick it up then I could double-task the trip. It's an RF900 Suzuki.

Uhaul trailer for what you need would likely be less than $50. I used to rent them for scooter rallies to pull behind my Mazda 3.

Go fred flintstone on that thing, rolling chassis right?
How about using a HF trailor or striping down a pop up camper?
You missed me by one day. Yesterday 4-5 I traveled from East Ohio to Trenton, MO and back. I don't have another trip that way planned.

Sometimes life works like that....
Anybody going from the Mitty to MO?
whats the frame and where is it?
If you pull the rear and passenger seat you might get a frame to fit.
In reply to 2.0dohc:
Alas the rear subframe is NOT detachable on the RF, it's welded to the main perimeter frame. The only way to get the bike IN the car would be to remove the fairing/instrument cluster/forks/triple tree assembly and I'm not even sure if that would work. I'd probably have to pull the rear seats out of the car to have a prayer.
UPDATE:
Can anyone in or near Cleveland recommend a dealer (independent or not) who would the sort of guy who'd handle the inspection and transaction for me? I might need them to hold the bike for a couple of weeks until I could drive over and get it.
Looks like my project may be a go. Is there anyone here near Cleveland?
I am on the west side of Cleveland
