For the last few years, I've been bumming rides on other folks' bikes and have finally gotten a respectable bit of second hand gear, mainly because I haven't made up my mind as far as what I would actually want for my first bike.

I got to take a little ride this weekend on two contenders for a bike I'd actually own. A 2008 WR250X, and a 2009 FZ6.

Brief riding impressions, the two-fiddy is a hell of a lot of fun. I just wish I wasn't so damn fat, because this thing seems like it needs a power commander and full exhaust to deliver the same oomph to kart a guy my size around. It even felt relatively composed on the Interstate, even though that's not exactly it's primary mission.

But I've fallen for the FZ6, seriously quick, comfortable, and it looks sooooo good in my eyes.

This thing has more than enough power for my needs, good brakes, and had a tall windshield on it for Interstate duties which was nice. I could definitely see this thing being a fair-weather commuter, it's that sweet.

The only problem? This one wasn't for sale...yet. I've been looking around, and it's pretty easy to find low mileage examples for around 4k.

Now to talk to the insurance folks and price all new gear. Maybe I can finally make this dream a reality.
