Thought a thread about unusual helmets might be interesting. Not the known semi-weird helmets, like the Roof Boxer and such. But genuinely unique helmets for some reason or another. Here's two that I know of that are quite different.

This one was pointed out to me by another member here. It's an unusual and interesting suspension alternative to the so typical foam liner.

This one has a completely different way of getting into and out of the helmet, and does away with the chin strap!

I have a D6 dirt helmet and will be getting the road helmet for next season ( I'm out for this season with double carpel tunnel surgeries) The testing and science behind it made it a no brainer for me to spend the $$ on it. It fits great, its easy to clean, the fact the check pads can be pulled out by the medics to allow for room for there hands to hold your head was a plus. I fitted mine with an Eject (hats off) system just in case. Eject

44Dwarf,

How would you describe the head shape for the D6? You're the only person I know of who wears one. Would you say it's round or oval inside?

I like that Eject system btw! Found this pdf describing it in detail. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiFosj09aTLAhXK2B4KHbTTDGIQFgghMAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fstilo-usa.com%2Fdocs%2FShock_Doctor_Eject_Helmet_Removal_System.pdf&usg=AFQjCNHgzpW9cAroziGlbz5-1dXOLGY-Ww&bvm=bv.115339255,d.dmo Also found you can buy it from the likes of Amazon. Surprisingly cheap!

I like the Vozz concept. Easy to get off for both every day use and for medical personnel - smaller because size isn't dictated by opening. They aren't for sale yet in the US. They are $888AU right now - which is about $1200 USD. They will need to make that a bit closer to $500-700 of other premium lids to get me to pony up more than the usual $400 shoei/arai prices. I wonder if someone more prominent in the lid biz will license the tech from them so we see options in a few years.

According to their web page currency converter, $888 AU = $653 US.

So it is in your range.

I know this probably isn't what you meant, but I would pay reasonable $ for a helmet like this, or a Rebel fighter pilot helmet.

In reply to foxtrapper:

DOH. I did the conversion backwards. Now I'm eager to see one in the flesh. Looks like they said "next year" in 2015 so maybe they are getting close. I would spend that - but it has to be a great helmet in addition to being a really cool one. Shoei really has fit, finish, venting and visor tech down pat - I wonder how this stacks up. In any case - count me as very interested.

Oh man WTF I had a nice long reply and it vanished. ERRRR......

Mostly bald with dents is how I'd describe my head... Thankfully my dealer was a D6 wearer himself and only one town over. He stocked all the sizes, check pads, and liners. I'm in a MED with a MED/SM liner (it's thicker) small helmet was to tight and med to loose so we swapped out the liner to the 1/2 size unit. They offer 1/2 sized liners for both directions and something like 10 check pads sizes too.

I like the Bell 360 can't wait to see my friend Savas's video from the IOM this coming season!

This rear view design is neat as well. Reevu

BMW supposedly has a heads up display that looks great for the street riders. bmw

Now if we could get it all with the D6 suspension unit I'd be on the list today.

Oh I know FLIR corp was developing a small unit for use on bikes and helmets a few years back but I no longer work in the IR optics field so don't know if they made any progress.
