But my lovely (and obnoxious) XS400 is finally out of the Yamaha specified 'break-in' period and due for it's first major service:
Fortunately, it has been serviced a few times in between, most recently after it stranded me for the 5th time this year, in traffic, and I called my husband to pick me up and bring the title, because I was ready to sign it and walk away. It's amazing what a few minutes to calm down, new spark plugs, a freshly charged battery and a 100 mile ride (first 100 mile ride, EVER) can do to restore the love. The ogling from a local custom builder over its 'all original and un-mucked-up' state helped, too.
Apparently I just have to stay calm and remember that the random flooding and stranding are part of the 'character' (and fun?) of an old, improperly broken-in, carbureted, classic.
Next order of business is replacing the uncomfortable and ugly buckhorn handlebars. Owie.
