I just picked up my very first bike and I couldn't be more excited. Its a 93 KLR 250. The speedo/odo doesn't work and the choke lever on the bars is broken and that's it. New tires, new seat, starts first or second kick every time. The PO also just registered it so its good for an entire year. What can the collective knowledge of GRM tell me about these bikes?

other then i've had a hankering for a klr600 for 15 or so years....i can't tell you much except change oil offten and with good quiality oil. In the past i would have said just to use castrol gtx but with the resent changes in CAR oils I know will tell you to spend the extra on motorcycle oil. Valvoline makes a good m-cycle oil (note has bike on label)

There's a little bit of knowledge on boards like KLR.net and ADVrider. They are vastly overshadowed by the more manly 650.
I found the Kawasaki parts catalogs online at this site: Kawasaki parts catalog There are always 650s being parted out so if anything crosses over you can save a buck that way. Having owned Hondas exclusively in the past, I find the Kawi's are built a little cheaper but not in a way that makes them bad. Looks like a great starter bike.
Oh cool, thanks for the links/tips
