I've been offered an XS400 in trade for my non-running RX7 that I bought from another member here and never got around to fixing. I don't have a whole lot of money in the RX, and I need it gone. I've had it on CL for about 3 months with a decreasing price (from $1500 down to $800), and no one seems to think it's worth taking home, much less paying me for it.
The XS400 has an iffy idle and needs an exhaust patch to be what I'd consider nice. From the picture, it looks decent enough, and the current owner states that the odometer reads 6,900 miles.
I was thinking at the worst, it the bike will need a carb rebuild and a new exhaust. Neither of these things seem all that expensive.
Do you guys think I should bite? Is such an old bike a good idea for a new rider? Does this trade sound totally one-sided?
Don't worry, I'll take the MSF course before I ride. Not only is it a requirement in the state of Florida, it's a great idea.

That's the RX. I have $700 in the car itself, so that's how I've assigned value to it. The only reason I'm considering the offer is because it seems to be the only serious offer I've gotten. I've gotten more $100 offers than I'm willing to count.
I guess it depends on how bad you want the RX7 gone and how bad you want an XS-400.
Have you considered the Barter section of C-List? Maybe there's something out there you would actually use.

The XS400 was a decent little bike, but from what you've described I don't think it's worth $800.
I'm in a town that doesn't have any sort of import performance scene. The closest people that have looked at the car seriously have come in from over an hour's drive with no way to tow. If I were in Orlando, this thing would have been gone months ago at my "I don't want to get rid of it" price.
For a GRMer, I have a spare motor, transmission, LSD rear end, and a 5-lug swap. If I trade him for this bike, I'm selling the parts separately. I figure that offsets the value difference.
I do have a cash offer on the table for the car, but it won't play out for a few weeks. We'll see where it goes. My Jeep needs floors and some valve work, and the money would more than pay for it.
Second time that's happened to this car. It's not worth anything where I live.
