does anyone have any first hand experience with these bikes? Just picked up the new issue of Popular Mechanics where they tested 6 new 250cc bikes. This one seems to be a very nice entry bike to someone who wants to buy a new bike. Any info would be awesome!

How much are they and if its even within 1K of a CBR250 or Ninja 250 whats the appeal?

They start at $3000. Im not the biggest fan of the Ninja and CBR. Just like how this has a Ducati look to it.

I have also been curious about these. I'm betting that the resale sucks compared to the established Japanese competition, so there may be some great deals around shortly.

I've heard pretty positive things about them; They are a lot better than the cheap Chinese junky bikes you can't get parts for and probably cheaper enough over the Japanese competition to make it OK to overlook a couple of the slightly rougher edges.

I used to sell them at a small shop. We only did Hyosung and used/vintage bikes, mainly repair.

They're a bit rough around the edges, but if you haven't had a new bike in 10 years you probably wouldn't notice. I'm talking about little things like older switchgear and gauges and such. The important stuff is pretty stout.

If you have a dealer nearby, parts are a non-issue. If you'll be working on it yourself, there are a couple dealers online that peddle parts.

Resale does indeed suck on them, so if you're patient, I'd suggest picking up a slightly used one for probably half price.

Until a couple years ago when the 250 Ninja finally got updated, I'd recommend this against the old model any day of the week. Now the new Ninja's supposed to be pretty well finished, so that makes it a little tougher comparison.

But if you're into little bikes, you can certainly do worse than these. They're flickable like a dirtbike, make adequate power (and I'm sure there's plenty on the table to be freed up with basic breathing mods), and when's the last time you saw a 250cc v-twin?

Food for thought.

Hyosung makes engines for Suzuki.

Hyosungs are decent machines with no resale. Get a used one and enjoy it.

I wouldnt necessarily trust one with a 150 horse 1000 cc motor to have the chassis and braking needed for that sort of power and speed, but for a fun beater they should be fine.

The updated Ninja model is a step down from the ZZR250 we got here in Canada as the Ninja. Those Hyosungs are so expensive here, they're practically nonexistent. I've never seen one.
