focused on one make and one or two models. For broadest appeal and viability, what make/model would you focus on?

Squids wreck. a lot. So do pirates. Parting out HDs, KTMs, Guzzis, Ducs, Triumphs and BMWs is probably more profit per part than a bunch of ninjas (and their ilk).

Are you a volume guy or a nice margin per transaction type?

Also I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm not staying at a holiday inn. But there is a bar in the lobby.

Motorcycle swap meets are almost 100% Harley. Certainly there is british and such. Far at the rear is metric, of any sort. Most of that which I see is a bit of sport bike, and vintage rusted/rotted junk.

The guys I see selling Harley parts from wrecks drive nice trucks and pull new trailers full of these treasures, which they sell for tremendously high prices. The guys at the meets with metric bikes drive beater vans and pull their stuff in chopped off converted camper trailers. They have dollar piles and don't move much stuff.

I've tried my hand at being one of those metric guys selling various parts at swap meets. Almost none of it would sell. I made more money with less effort scrapping it at the metal yard. Piles of Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki/Yamaha fenders just don't sell. Same gauges, bars, seats, panels. Oh, some will here and there will sell, but darned if I ever figured the rhyme and reason.

I've not been in the motorcycle world long, but what I see when I am looking for used parts are TONS and TONS of HD stuff. Whether it is stock or aftermarket as long as it is for, or says HD on it, then I've seen it for sale. Granted I don't know how many of those purchases are made, but there are a lot of adds for those types of used parts.

On the flipside, I have a Ninja 650r and shopping for used parts, whether you put in Ninja, Kawasaki, or 650R, there are very few adds. And when you do find them it is a part here or there.

As an example go to your local CL and type "seat" in the parts section. How many HD seats pop up vs all other makes?

Harley Davidson.

Softail or Touring would probably be the most popular.

Stock take-off parts would be typical/common. Bags, levers, mirrors, lights - think crash repair items. Exhaust heat shields, too (yes, Martha, some people DO keep the stock exhaust on their Harleys).

Excellent example! I threw "tail light" in mine. Here's what I got.

Harley LED tail light, $140

Yamaha tail light, $20

Yamaha RD tail light, $1

Harley tail light, $40

I'm thinking maybe SV650 Suzukis? Hayabusa?
