Are there any good kits available to add a motor to a bike I have? Have a Schwinn cruiser that I want to put one on. Any suggestions? Thanks

Gas or electric?

IIRC, most of the gas kits are the same Chinese made 66cc kit. Some are listed as 88 by creative math. These run around $150 shipped.

Kit on ebay

Electric, more $$$. Never really looked into.

I have an old Free Spirit (Tanaka Bike Bug) that my father bought for me from Sears when I was about 10. I haven't used it in a long time, since I no longer own a bike with a 26" wheel and normal fork.

With this setup, the hand lever drops the drive wheel down onto the front tire, the engine starts and then you control the speed with a thumb throttle. Pushing down on the hand lever raises the drive wheel for "neutral".

The Lifan motors are the ones to get. They seem to have a pretty good reputation.

I threw one together in college and had WAY too much fun:

FYI I ripped apart the rear wheel.... Got a new one with thicker spokes and ran it into the ground. The engine finally died after being treated very poorly for about 3 years.
