Not quite what I thought it would be, but opportunity knocks when the price for both is a whopping nothing.
I know next to nothing about these awesome little turds, so I figgered I could go to the FONT OF KNOWLEDGE(tm) and find out what's what.
The one in the back is a 1980 Garelli Gran Sport LTD, and the ratty one is something similar, but I can't find anything specific. I have a sneaking suspicion I'll have to use the turdy one for parts, but the nice one is in great shape considering it sat under a porch for a good while.
I really hope I can get at least one of them on the road to putter around on like a doofus.
First thing you need to know about mopeds is www.treatland.tv Those guys are awesome. Cheap parts, fast shipping and a great sense of humor. Looks to be a few 70cc kits out there for Garellis.
Find out your state laws on mopeds. Some states require them to be licensed and titled and the riders to be insured. Some don't. It can be a real PITA to title an old bike in a lot of places. I just got my moped licensed thursday after 6 visits to the DMV.
I rode my Vespa Ciao to the bar yesterday and caught a glimpse of myself in the window of a shop as I drove past and my attitude went from "Wheee!!! this is fun" to "Holy crap I am so embarrased, I am way too big for this little thing"

MD doesn't require tags or anything, but it turns out that if they catch you riding a moped without a license(either driver or a moped) the fine runs to 375 bucks.
Which is ridiculous, but I don't think the 5oh round here would even care enough to bother pulling over a fatty on a moped.
Beside that, I don't give a crap about what people think of me, so I wont be getting embarrassed anytime soon. Course, how I look + moped = DUI charge to most people.

The trick is to modify them. My Ciao started life looking like this

And now looks like this

That thing is sweet.
I just googled more vigorously after going on the site you provided, turns out Garelli raced the hell out of small displacement bikes.
Clearly I need to do up a livery on mine and somehow obtain one of their 50cc race engines.
THE SOUND
Please take one to a Wednesday night test and tune at Cecil.

My cousin already suggested it.
