After looking for the better part of two years, I finally bought myself a street bike. Found a 1998 Honda Nighthawk 750 with 6500 miles on it on CL

The lady who owned it bought it in 2006 with just over 6000 miles on it, so the poor thing has been mostly sitting in her garage. She got it to try to get in to riding with her ex-husband until he got a new girlfriend, and then for the most part let it sit except for a few nice weekends each summer.

Hasn't been ridden in 2 years, but with fresh gas and a charged battery it started right up. Tires are OE, probably original(!), front pads are a little low, and all the control cables need some lubing, but otherwise with an oil change its ready to ride.

Can't wait for the rest of the ice on the roads to melt...

Made it home safely!

Only got to ride it about 5 miles home, as the tires are original to the bike(!) and its a 1998 with only 6600 miles on it.

First impressions: This is exactly the bike I've been wanting and looking for. Even though its been sitting for two years, fresh gas with a fully charged battery got it running great. Almost completely vibration free, and damn near silent running. The motor pulls well even off idle and while I wouldn't call her torquey there's plenty of grunt to get moving. I was only really was able to pull through second gear most of the way to see how well it ran on the top end, the motor seems to wake up and snarl a little around 5000-6000 rpm and there's plenty of power for me. What surprised me most is how light and agile it felt. I was expecting the steering to be way heavier and slower reacting, but instead it felt light and nimble at least on initial lean-in. It'll be nice to see how it works at a more sporting pace once the roads clear and I have fresh rubber on it.

Overall, I'm stoked!

I almost bought one of those before deciding I 'needed' a dual sport. Those are great bikes. Every owner who has sold one has lamented he wished he hadn't. Good for you.

Very nice!

Replace the tires with ones whose age and condition you can be confident in and... ride.

Yup already ordered a center stand and a set of Pirelli sport demon tires.

A set of flatter handlebars and some bar-end mirrors would be a stellar touch.

Those are super reliable bikes. Great UJMs. Brakes are a little weak but it was never meant to be a race bike.

Super buy.

Damn I'm Jealous!!

I have liked Nighthawks for as long as I can remember. I remember looking at these in college.

I will get one, one day.

Check the tank carefully with a flashlight for rust. There's other maintenance stuffs to think about but this was a big issue with my first bike which had sat around a lot.
