I wanted to do an oil change and fix an oil leak on my DR650 daily-ish rider. It's not a particularly nice bike, previous owner threw it into the scenery a few times so it's got its fair share of battle scars. But it's as reliable as they come, does 60 to the gallon and has a six gallon tank...
Pulled it out of its hiding place, pushed into into the garage and was just about to fire it up when I notice something dangling under the battery, ready to catch the chain.
Looks like during one of the scenery/bike interfaces the CDI unit (which is bolted to the bottom of the battery tray) had come loose and lost one of its mounting ears, so the PO duct taped it up on one side and left the bolt in on the other side. Of course it's in a place you can see unless you partially dismantle the bike.
The vibration from the engine eventually cracked the CDI holder bracket and the whole shebang came down.
That'll be about 200 bucks in used parts at the very minimum, or about 600 sent to bike bandit if I can't find that stuff used. Thanks.
On a more amusing note, some mouse used the air box to store seeds for the winter .
