Hello everyone. My name is George Richardson from Scorch. Scooter Racing Championship. I have started this organization to promote scooter racing here in Florida and in the Southeast U.S. this sport certainly isn't for everyone but it's specifically for those who have the desire to race a scooter on a closed circuit. Ever since I first got a scooter in 2007 I've wanted to race it. I was and still am shocked at how few scooter racing leagues there are here in the U.S. but that is changing. I have taken it upon myself to get a league going here in the Southeast (namely Florida).
I have put together a promotional video at my site where you can get more information about what we are trying to do and how to get involved. I am currently contacting every scooter club and motor sports organization in Florida to get a picture and consensus about what most riders think about scooter racing and to see who is interested. Aside from scooter racing, I will also have track days where motorcyclists can come out and ride on challenging circuit tracks. Anyone who is interested in racing in Florida can reach me at my contact info on the site and I will check in periodically on this thread to see what you guys members think. Thank you for your time.

Nah, seems pretty grassroots to me. Besides, Per says to let it be...
I wish there was scooter racing in Alabama.
Too well worded for a canoe. Wish you'd come to Chicagoland.

It's true: If it has an engine, someone will want to race it.

Engines are optional.
Racing will always exist

Hey guys, I'm new here. What's a Canoe? I'm assuming, some kind of carpetbagger/solicitor...

George- welcome aboard! Best of luck getting this up and running-then expand to Upstate New York!
Yeah "canoe" is our codeword for a spammer. When we see a new user showing their wares our thoughts turn to watersports.
Back on topic... I used to imagine setting up scooter races while scooting around the community my where my father used to live.
edit; You reminded me that I actually designed a couple of courses there in Google Maps... Get Barefoot Bay to agree to it and I will come down and find a scooter.

Actually, it's an Ocean Kayak.

Guess this doesn't qualify as "upstate" NY, but I"m pretty sure OVRP will let scooters race in their minimotard races:

Also, spent last summer scooter racing in MD w/ the http://mdminimoto.com :
My friend, Noah, on my Kymco:
& my buddy, Stas, the one guy I could convince to get his own scoot and race w/ us...
They're not classic scoots, but seriously fun nonetheless. The minimoto guys just think you're a wierdo for running a scoot, though....
I'm getting a TTR125 basket case this weekend, but not sure I'll have it together for racing this season. I'll probably be back out there w/ the scooters.
Down here in the southeast. Most of the mini leagues are either defunct or on pause for 2012. I'd liked to have partnered up with one but I must go it alone.
What kinda scale are we talking - go kart tracks? Top speeds on longest straight?
Which tracks do you see as targets for setting up a series?
Down here road racing is a niche is as niche gets. I did tentatively secure the Orlando kart center and the Central Florida Racing Complex. I'll scale up the competition as the league grows. When it comes to road racing I'm not looking for long straights, I like twisties and long sweeping corners where you can put a knee down. It's a shame though, most tracks are too busy to get back to me and others want nothing to do with scooters. Since all the mini leagues are gone I have to secure insurance alone.
Speaking of insurance. I guess the rule is play it safe and shun the new thing. A few of them are helpful. The rest do not want anything to do with scooters.
Overall things are progressing nicely. This was just an idea in my head 3 weeks ago.
