simple 2 stroke security?

I have finally gotten around to finishing my Vespa Ciao

Now I just want to ride it everywhere. Problem is how do I ensure no one runs off with it when I am in the grocery store, cafe, whatever?

It has never had a key. I think the original forks might have had a lock but these yamaha forks lack such things. A small switch that locks in a closed position so I could ground the coil out would be nice. I could mount it in the headlight bucket.

Any Ideas on how to disable this thing?

You could also just get a bike lock, but I think a secret sort of killswitch is the best idea, there are probably a variety of ways to go about it, as simple as just creating a break in the circuit somewhere

Heavy duty bicycle lock through the frame? I think I'd be more concerned about somebody rolling or carrying it away. Of course, then you're saddled with carting around a big lock, which would be a PITA.

When I bought my Kryptonite lock, it came with a way to mount it onto my bicycle frame, it was adjustable for different size tubes to. One could easily just put something on that top bar to hold a bike lock. And I wonder if you one couldnt lock it up to a bike rack, it doesnt look too much bigger than a bike.

It is small. I want a kill switch. Any motorcycle can be pushed away, this one can be easily carried away at only 70lbs.

Back when I rode a spree or an FA50 everywhere I just took the key out and left it and never had an issue.

I wonder if any ignition switch at Napa is as small as I would like.

Maybe stick one of these somewhere?

If it's 70 lbs, then I'd say you need a cable lock and need to secure it to something when you park it. Just like you would a nice bicycle.

Wire a toggle under the seat or somewhere hidden.

I envy you guys small enough to ride cool little stuff like that. I look like a trained bear in a Russian circus, and can only get up to a speed comparable to a brisk walk.

At 6 feet tall and 215lbs I am sure I look absolutely ridiculous on this thing.

Good cable lock or U-shaped lock through the rear wheel, maybe a good chain and good lock for home.

You can modify the petcock so that the tee handle is removable. Turn the gas off and they won't be able to get very far without it stalling.

If you don't want them to be able to start it - pull the plug wire off the spark plug when you park it. If you don't want them to be able to ride it - make the seat bolt a tool less quick release and take it with you or lock it to the front wheel with a small cable lock when there isn't anything around to lock the bike to.

Or just get something like this - lever lock

I can't say for sure on this bike, but my dirt bike will run for a good 10 minuets on the gas in the carb/fuel line.

I would go with a simple coil grounding switch or a bike cable lock.

FYI, around here (Milwaukee), mopeds have a tendency of being stolen simply by getting picked up and carried away, even ones that have been locked/chained up to not roll around. I'd focus on locking it up TO something more than a hidden kill setup.

Yeah, given the size and weight plus the 'cool' factor I'd lock it to something solid.

I should lock it to the Valkyrie that sits in front of the grocery store.

On the plus side no one could steal it.

On the negative the Valkyrie owner could drive away with out noticing the extra bikes worth of baggage.

I used to turn my friends gas off on his 600 when we were stopped at a light and he wasn't looking and he would get maybe a quarter mile before it would stall out. That never got old.

Do you have a coil with two wires on it? Just swap 'em when you park.

Paint a cork black and put it in the exhaust pipe.

Big chain lock, around something bigger, heavier, and harder to steal than the bike is the best bet imo.

I learned real quick when trailriding with certain buddies to ALWAYS check the petcock after a BS break.

Since no one really bikes to stores cause if you buy something you cant bring it back easily, you wont have any lack of space at the bike rack, which most stores have, or one right around corner. lock it there

No that is a Technigas Classic that just happened to be on sale cheap when I had a bit of money in paypal. It is too small for the displacement and I think it is holding me back. I wish I had thought to make my own pipe. I get too hung up the the "right" way to do things and thought without a slip roll I wouldn't have a chance to do it, then I watch an episode of Cafe Racer and a shop is building pipes by hand forming sheet metal over a rod and I was dumbfounded by how something so simple had escaped me.

The Ciao has the largest kit that will fit into the stock case . A Malossi 46.5mm "80cc" kit. It is actually only 76cc but for some reason they sell it as 80.
