My new commuter (and racer)
2008 CBR 125r
11,000 RPM redline
I've been wanting one of these since they started selling them here a few years ago, spotted this one on Kijiji last week, and scored it for $1000.
There seems to be a pretty strong aftermarket, and since most of it is Thailand based, the prices are not bad.
Why can't we get stuff like this in the states. These make so much sense for city bikes and track training.

You shall ride a Harley Fat Boy in your city, and to your track days.
I take it that's a two stroke? My MB5 has a 12K redline, and likes sneaking to 12,500 sometimes.
Looks like a four stroke to me.
It's a liquid cooled, fuel injected 4 stroke single. Owners claim close to 100 mpg. I won't be getting that with my plans
I plan to do a little buildup, and probably take it to Maxton next year.
Sharp little bike...I want it!

Actually Road King, but that's another post.
Those kooky Canadians... with those beady eyes, flapping heads and very small bore street bikes. What will they think of next?
Wow. Really cool.
Way back in the Dark Ages of the 1990's, Honda had a street legal version of the 2 stroke CR250R (in both the steel and aluminum framed versions) which was sold around the Pacific Rim. The bike magazines were screaming to try to get them over here, but no luck.
I know, somewhat off-topic etc but did the US ever get the NS250s or NS400s?

White vinegar on french fries? Coffee crisp?
It's a pretty tame bike. If you heard it on fast idle, you'd think somebody fired up a Honda generator, and the flywheel must weigh a few kg's, so it's slow to rev off the bottom. I'll have to do something about that.
I'm trying to figure out what I can do (get away with) and still run legal in production. There's a write off for sale locally. If I can get it for $500, I'll pop a big bore 170 cc kit in it, swap motors at the track, and go after the 175 records on the same days.
This is KTM's new 125. You won't be getting this, either.
If it's typical KTM, it'll probably blow away the CBR.

I know that there is talk of a CBR 250.
Anything smaller wont cut it here because of the freeway/highway requirements.
I've heard that some states have minimum size requirements for highway travel. People think we have that here, but we don't.
Honda is having a 'VIP unveiling' for the CBR250 next Tuesday in Toronto. It's a 250 single, and will probably be overpriced.
I don't think the states will get the 250 either.
Its pretty damn simple. Don't ride it on the highway!
I have a fifty. I get anywhere I need to go by taking surface streets. Its more fun that way.

I'm hoping to hit Maxton next year as well with my bike. We'll have to start a Maxton bike thread closer to time.
Maybe I will go up to Maxton to see how well my fifty will do. Keep me in the loop!
Maybe we should take the MadAss there too, but I think it will top out around 55. I'm sure with the right sprocket changes it could squeeze out a bit more.
I love that little thing.
Tom, is that Sachs the bill and a quarter model or the fiddy?

We're getting the 250, but I still don't quite like it as a thumper. Unless the motor ends up in a decent big red dual sport eventually.
And 250's are plenty on the interstate.

Honda is effing up by bringing these POS 250 single CBR. They should just start cranking out the 250 inline four CBR250Rs that revved to 18,000-20,000rpm they used to make in the 90s.

I started working on it last night. I've never worked on a street bike before.
That 250 is OK, but it's hardly competition for the Ninja, which in itself is many years overdue for an update.
Even though I think it's $1000 overpriced, it's still $1000 less than the (30 yr old) CRF 230. Honda's a joke.

It's an 1/8th liter bike. Or 125cc, whichever you prefer.
I love those Sachs.
The really cool thing about them (aside from the looks), is that there is a HUGE aftermarket for them, and replacement big bore, hi-po motors can be bought in a crate - or a cardboard box
I could have bought one cheap last year. I should have jumped on it.

05 BMW k1200s. I hope to hit 170. It has a slip on but is otherwise stock. I might add a Power Commander before Maxton, but haven't decided yet.
BTW for you guys thinking about going....I think Maxton requires full leathers for bikes. Cycle Gear has a great sale on their Frank Thomas one piece leather suit right now. It's normally 499 and is selling for 299.
