Well, folks. Today marks the first day in around 35 years that I've laid down a bicycle. Yes, a bicycle. Took advantage of a reasonably warm day here in central VA and did my regular little 12-mile loop. Some of the roads are in a National Park, and are covered with a layer of sand from when we had a little snow. I'm usually pretty careful on loose stuff, but I was feeling pretty good and carried too much speed into a left hander at an intersection. Started my turn and the front tire (bike is wearing road slicks) slid out very quickly without warning. I was introduced to the pavement. Hello, pavement! Picked myself and the bike up, and finished my ride. Got home and looked myself over. Little road rash on my left hip and elbow/forearm, and a bit of swelling at one small spot on my forearm. All in all, not a bad ride, and I got some battle scars to show the kids! Ha!
Let's be careful out there.
