Despite being a committed motorcycle enthusiast for 30 years including a good stretch of road racing and years working in the industry (but not at a Japanese big-4 dealership) I'd never had much exposure to the Hayabusa crowd 'til I converted my D sports racer to CSR spec by swapping in a Hayabusa engine.
As someone who skews toward political correctness, I'm a little uneasy making this point, but...
At least in the DC metro area, Hayabusa ownership hews pretty closely to racial lines, ie. 'Busas are a black thing by and large. There's certainly a white contingent, and for them the 'Busa has a sort of 2-wheeled Fox body Mustang w/ gears and 'Flows kind of connotation.
The lesson began when I bought, on eBay, a box containing every fastener and bit of hardware from a Hayabusa for about $35. In it was a left side handgrip much like the one in the image below...
Contrast this with the Yamaha TZ250 grips I have on everything else...
