Rotary

OK, the Rotary is pretty unusual for a motorcycle. But more than that, what is up with that instrument pod?

It was just a styling thing, if I remember correctly it only lasted for one year and then they went back to conventional instruments. The cylindrical cover slides up so you can see the gauges when riding.

I never got a chance to ride one of those, being a rotard I wish I had. But they are not supposed to be all that quick, more a cruiser bike unlike the Norton Nemesis..

The instrument pod was designed to remind you to pick up toilet paper on the ride home.

Huh. I've only seen a few of the RE5's over the years (including one that used to buzz around town). But I'd never seen one with the tin can gauge cluster. Didn't even know about it until this one sent me searching. I thought the owner had done some weird customization. Interesting!

Note the cylindrical styling is used on the taillight as well.
