What do you line your tank with?

I don't, but the friend of mine who did line the tank on my Morini got some tank liner from the local-ish aircraft supply place. He wasn't too keen on the stuff regularly sold for bike use, but OTOH I've heard good things about POR-15.

I generally recommend against tank liners. It will almost always come back off, and do the same thing rust would: gum up the works.

Best bet is to get it clean and un-rusty, and just keep it full of gas.

Is this preventive, or are you dealing with a currently-rusty tank?

Everyone says Kreme sucks. That's all I know...but my tank is coated with it and it looks like crap.

My main issue with liners these days (aside from general principle) is that no body really knows how they're going to hold up with modern formulations of gasoline. The way new gas is degrading rubber and plastic parts in fuel systems anyway, I have to think that liners aren't going to last long, no matter how well they're applied.

Currently rusted tank that I am repairing.

Caswell or aircraft spruce are the only two that hold up to the alky. Caswell has fiberus one that seals holes best.

In reply to alex:

I'm generally with you on that - I used to have an R100GS a while back that had the factory tank liner come off in powder that was so fine some of it would go through the fuel filter. I got really tired of cleaning out the carbs on that one.

However sometimes you don't have much of a choice - the tank for my Morini is really hard to find (low volume bike, they changed the shape after 3 years and I've got the older, rarer shape) and for that one the tank liner was heaven sent given that the tank consistent mostly of little rust holes.

I used the POR-15 tank liner in my CB. You just better not get it anywhere you don't want it because once it's dry, it's not coming off. Ask the garage floor, my shorts, workbench, etc..

Oh yes...yes, I went there.

Clean the tank and you're done. Unless it leaks. I fill it with vinegar for a few days and dump it.

Pine-Sol works well as a tank cleaner too!

I have heard that millstone solution is pretty good to clean a tank w/.

You mean, it's a desert topping and a tank cleaner? Woa.

I'm another for the no-liner unless it's leaking. I did a tank liner once. The Kreme stuff. I lost close to a quart of tank size, which on a 2.25 gallon tank is a lot. And I've seen those things flake off too.

What is the best way to get flaking tank liner out?

Beat the outside of the tank with a hammer until you get all the coating out of the inside.

Also, you can make your computer run faster by deleting the Windows directory.
