Thoughts on what this bike started as.

I like more of the Cafe Racer look but what was this bike to start with?

The only pic I see doesn't look like it started out much like a bike.....

That being said, if it's Japanese in descent, I'd have to guess it was something like a Honda CB500, Yamaha Seca, or the like.... very popular cafe converts around my area.

Nice bike! Yami parallel twin is my guess. I like the way the tank straddles the bar, nothing higher than the triple tree.

Yamaha, but I think it's a single, not a twin. I'm not a big fan of Japanese Bobbers but that one is really well done. I love it. The only thing I'd change would be some forward pegs and controls.

That bike looks very similar to one that was featured in the January 2010 issue of Cycle World magazine. They had an article about a Danish bike shop called http://www.wrenchmonkees.com/ . Go to their site and scroll down to Monkee #10 - it was based on a Yamaha SR500, and sold for $12,000.

Okay I have another one. This is all I have found so far "The front end on that XT looks like it was lifted from a mid or late 90s Ducati in its entirety. SS fender, Brembo wheels and brake, Showa USD forks, and the triples look like Ducati, too.

+1 to Yamaha SR 500. I'd lay one 'merican dollar on it.

Judging by the quality of work, as well as the catch pan, I would not be surprised if that swingarm was a custom piece

Nice thing about the SR series it the relative modern, yet simple construction. Part of the reason they are so popular is because you can find them cheap, in good condition, and hack them all up and they still run beautifully.

I like everything except the tail. I like the rounded tail on the front page of site you linked to better. It would look better to have less air over the rear tire, the tank and seat horizontal and either a shorter swingarm or dual shocks to move the rear tire closer to the engine. But that would be hella lot more work.

Ya I am with you on the "air over the back tire". I want to run a single shock and he all ready cut 50mm out of the swing arm. So I was thinking of running one exhaust in each side like... or
