Ok so the frame of my Yamaha has a few places I would like touchup. What is the best way to do this?

If you have a color code, google it, and look for one of those online services that mixes factory paint colors and sends you a touch-up bottle in the correct color.

Also, local repair shops might be willing to do the same for 20 bucks. Call them up and ask if you gave them a paint code, would they be able to whip up a bottle of touch-up.

Bottle? Is it a spray can or do I need to spray it with a gun?

I used a black model paint and a hobby brush to fix some chips on my Suzuki frame. What it lacks in permanence it makes up for in speed/simplicity. And it looks fine unless you look close.

I've done this before with good results, as long as the frame is black. If it's some other color it may be harder to find a color match in the Testors/Tamiya paint lines.

It is black. Where can I find the paint code for the frame of a 73 Yamaha CT3?

They might not have used codes back then, and if its black, I'd do as above and see if you can find black model paint. It uses an almost nail polish style bottle brush combo to just cover up small scratches/chips.

Black back then was common because like Henry Ford said: it was cheap and it dried fast. Most bikes came with a semi gloss black, see if Rustoleum semigloss is close. I wouldn't bother with high $ touchup because, being a dirt bike, oh yes it will get scratched. If you are abusing it properly, that is.

I think the paint code was "black".

Seriously, I just looked at several of my old Suzuki parts catalogs, and for black paint they all list it as "Mansel color number N1". Chances are, though, black is black and you just have to worry about the level of gloss.
